Just like your food and makeup, trends also have a timeline and no matter how much we love some of them, they tend to have a shelf life. Which is not to say you shouldn't continue wearing a style that's become synonymous with your personal brand, but some trends... Just need to go. Either they've been done to death or because they never made much sense in the first place. One way or the other, the start of a brand new year is a good time to say goodbye to some stale, over-styled trends and hello to new and refreshing ones. Here's our list of the trends we're so ready to bid adieu to.
1. Off-shoulder
We know, we know, they make the clavicle and the curve of the neck look sexy as all hell, but the off-shoulder trend is a perfect example of too much of a good thing is a bad thing. It's time for off-shoulder to go. But we hear you, it's hard to let go sometimes. If you simply can't bear the thought of covered shoulders, try one shoulder instead in 2018.
2. Millennial Pink
As much as we love the colour and how subtle and minimal it is, it's 'oh so old'. The new Pantone colour of the Year 2018 is Ultra Violet. So ladies, say goodbye to muted tones of pink and bring in a cosmic hue of colour with the new year.
3. Mismatched Earrings
Although this trend was big this year, personally, I've always been a bit on the fence about it. While it does look cool when the mismatch has some theme to it, every so often, it just ends up looking like you lost a earring and just put on the first thing within reach. I have to admit, I'm not too sad to watch this trend quietly exit our must-try look books. Buy a pair of statement earrings here, which are going to be the highlight of 2018.
4. Socks With Sandals
This is one trend we have never understood. It was all over the runway and style icons like Kendall Jenner have been recently seen wearing this trend. Why can't we just wear closed shoes? Socks with closed pumps is a different story altogether, now that we would like to see more of.
5. Chokers
It's time to put away all those strips of jewellery you've been wearing around your neck for a while now. Whether you wrapped it once or multiple times to get the perfect bow, It's time for the trend to retire. Statement earrings is the way to go in 2018 - Sonam has been wearing a lot of statement earrings this season. And if the diva is wearing them, we know it's going to be a big trend.
6. Crop tops
Crop tops have been all the rage for a long time now, but we're hoping 2018 will be the year that changes all of that. Honestly, just how much longer are we supposed to ooh and aah over midriffs. We're so much more excited about the far more inclusive satin blouses revolution that's slowly gaining momentum. It's been seen on the runway and style icons like Gigi Hadid have been spotted wearing them. They can easily go from day to night and are kinder to women of all sizes. We can't think of a better reason to champion a trend, really.
