Whether you're on a diet or not, chocolate is a food that nobody can say no to. It comes in different forms like dark, light and unsweetened which adds a creamy sweetness to a slew of dishes. There are also a few in which chocolate seems like a strange fit but in the end, tastes triumphs all. On the eve of World Chocolate Day, we're celebrating the ingredient in all its sinful glory with 6 unusual dishes containing chocolate.
1. Chocolate Pizza
For the lovers of margaritas and pepperonis, this may come as a shock. Chocolate pizza has emerged in the past few years and is now seen at desserts spots as well as in ready-to-make packets. Where the sauce would go a traditional pizza is where the liquid chocolate is slathered and then topped with fresh fruit, cream and chocolate shavings.
2. Chocolate Sandwich
The combination of chocolate and bread seems to be a popular one as the chocolate sandwich too brings together the best of both those worlds. Simply enough, it consists of chocolate being sandwiched between bread and then being toasted for it to ooze over the edges. Slurp.
3. Mole
If you never imagined chocolate would combine with meat to form a lip-smacking dish, it's time to think again. The Mexican dish mole brings together meat and rice in a dark, rich sauce made from spices, seeds, nuts and yes, chocolate. Mole sauce has a sweet and spicy flavour and is famous, not just in Mexico but over the world too.
4. Chocolate Pasta
After you've raised your eye brows in surprise at this dish, here's what it is. Cocoa is mixed into the pasta dough so when cooked, it ends up with a striking brown colour and a deep hint of bitter cocoa. Chocolate pasta can be cooked as a dessert or even as a savoury dish but only if you've got the right pairings.
5. Chocolate Bacon
You'd think that this wouldn't go together but somehow, it just does. The creamy sweetness of chocolate mingles magically with bacon's saltiness for a dish that's a great balance of two delicious flavours.
6. Chocolate Potato Chips
Yet again, chocolate with potato chips may seem like an odd combination but it has worked well enough for Japanese chocolate brand Royce to become globally known for their chocolate covered potato chips. We think it's the salty-sweet combination that does all the magic here.
Which of these chocolate dishes would you like to try? Let us know in the comments.
