We're in the thick of festivities and everyone wants to put their best foot forward, especially when meeting family and friends you haven't seen in a while. Along with splurging on sparkling ensembles and sky-high stilettos, your skin needs attention too. Especially if you are acne-prone. No one wants to have to deal with an angry, inflamed zit on NYE night, right? For that very reason, you need these skin care tips to keep pimples away through the party season.
1. Alter Your Routine
The party season isn't any ordinary time of the year. You're most probably exhausted, sleep-deprived and your junk food and alcohol consumption are significantly higher. So how can your skin routine stay the same? Make sure you alter your skin care to best suit those hectic days and late nights. Add in a nourishing cold cream, under eye patches and an exfoliator to ensure your skin is cared for when you aren't out partying.
2. Get Your Beauty Sleep
We know, we know - sleep can seem like it's for the weak-willed during year-end festivities. But too little of it and your skin will instantly show signs of fatigue through sudden breakouts and dark circles. If you aren't able to get in those full 8 hours, try slipping in a 30 minute power nap post lunch to at least try and make up for those late nights.
3. Get Your Grub On
While the buffet can feel like the best thing about a party, it can also generously overflow with skin-troubling foods like wine and cheese platters, bruschetta and chocolate fountains. If your skin is triggered by gluten, dairy or any specific types of food, eat a full meal at home before you head out so you're not ravenous and less likely to be tempted.
4. Don't Skip Removal
We've said it before and we'll say it again - removing your makeup is just as, if not more important than applying it. So no matter how late it gets, how much wine you've had or how sleepy you are, do your double cleanse or use a makeup remover to thoroughly remove all makeup, especially from your lashes and cheeks. When left on through the night, makeup clogs pores, increases oiliness and causes pimples to erupt.
5. Choose Well
If it feels like everything during the party season, from excessive makeup to red wine braised steak, causes you to breakout; then load up on anti-inflammatory foods. Add foods like leafy green vegetables, strawberries, oranges, tomatoes, salmon and almonds to your diet during the festivities. They are filled with fatty acids and anti-oxidants that help decrease swelling and redness so that your skin stays clear.
6. Take A Break
Makeup is a party staple during the end of the year and while it doesn't cause acne, wearing it continuously for weeks isn't ideal for the skin. So when you get a free day, or even a free hours between festivities, give your makeup a break and allow your skin to breathe. Even a mini break can do wonders for it during the party season.
