Even though the world came to a standstill in 2020, the fashion industry was ever growing. Whether it was a yearning for a more comfortable space or the need for reinvention, many trends like checks and oversized clothing made a major comeback. Along with comfier choices however, there were many other trends that also stole the limelight; just not for the right reasons. Like most things in life, some things are exceptional hits and others, dreadful misses. Fashion is no stranger to this concept either. We saw many trends in 2020 that made a mark, which we'll be happy to see in 2021. Some trends however, missed it and we're secretly glad they will remain in the past. Here's looking at some of the trends from 2020 that we hope will never come back. Ever!
7 Fashion Trends In 2020 That We Never Want To See Again
Goodbye 2020 and goodbye to these fashion trends.
1. Micro Mini Bags
We've all heard in fashion if you want to be seen; the bigger, the bolder. That was surely not the case with this trend. We're sure the only thing this bag can contain is the motivation to work during holiday season. Mini bags are surely easy to carry to a party where all you need is a lipstick and some cash. Your micro mini on the other hand probably cannot even fit a finger nail in it. Of course Lizzo's grand entry on the red carpet was a head turner; but it soon became the most troll worthy handbag of the year as well. Not only are these bags impractical to use, they're also pretty expensive for its purpose and we'll gladly say goodbye to this trend as 2020 ends.
2. Absurd Fashion
There is a thin line between high fashion going wow on the runway and a huge oh-no! That is what we felt with a lot of trends this year that were introduced by some of the most esteemed names in the industry. Gucci has been a name to resonate with for many celebrities and loyalists for years. However, many have questioned the idea of introducing fashion just for the sake of it and attach labels to it because they can. Gucci made some pretty bold statements with their inverted cat-eye sunglasses recently but what really raised eyebrows were the ripped stockings they introduced in October 2020. To carry the ripped and distressed fashion forward, the introduction of ripped stockings was borderline tacky. The stockings looked like they were probably clawed by your cat or even a nail accident if you were not careful. It's a no thank you from our side, Gucci.
3. Fanny Packs
We get it; fanny packs are comfortable and easy to carry when you're travelling but they're frankly not the most stylish accessory in the room. There are definitely some exceptions that we cannot possibly miss and if paired right can look stylish. But is it the case all the time? Commonly known as belt bags, they came in all shapes and sizes that were only meant to look a certain way but barely serve any purpose. Celebrities and social media influencers picked up the trend, where regular belts were simply replaced for these. So, if not to carry your essentials, what purpose did fanny packs really serve? A belt? And arm rest? We will never know.
4. Spanx And Bike Shorts As Regular Wear
We're all up for wearing inner wear as outer wear; satin camisole tops with lace and slip dresses are stylish, right? If you're the Kardashians, you can simply wear anything and call it fashion and rest assured, it will sell like hot cakes. Spanx obviously serve a different purpose in life but surely the Kardashian-Jenner clan can make anything look like it is fashion and so they did. Spanx and bike shorts have suddenly become athleisure essentials and we obviously have some serious questions. We understand the need for comfortable wear but there is no way on earth these shorts ticked that box and we'd prefer if they stayed right here in 2020.

5. Clogs
Clogs have made a comeback in 2020 in a way that we couldn't possibly have imagined and all we had to say is - why? The rubber counterpart of clogs namely; Crocs have been popular among kids and moms who enjoy gardening. While we agree that they are comfortable to work around at home, that's where they should be left. Walking out of your house in them should be an offence unless you've stepped out to buy groceries. Somehow these have become the most popular ugly shoes to own and while we believe they're good as home slippers, we won't want to team them with party dresses.
6. Bucket Hats
Bucket hats are cool; but only for kids. Yes, they protect you from the sun, are easy to carry and lightweight, but we're just not having them. Many supermodels and celebrities have donned it in the past and we wonder how everybody's cool with it? Your outfit could be absolutely stellar and statement worthy and all it will take is a rolled up cap on your head to completely ruin it. Many designer labels sure made an effort to add a monogram angle to it but it still did not deny the fact that the cap was meant to look like an inverted bucket on our heads. No thanks, we're good without this trend. You can keep it!
7. Socks With Heels
It may be cold we understand that but there's a reason you can ditch your regular peep toes or stilettos for other variants. The reason being a fuller coverage that let's say, combat boots can provide for that additional warmth. Wearing your stylish heels with socks is the equivalent of wearing the nearest slippers to answer the door. Nobody wants to look like they were trying too hard but this trend surely stretched a bit too far.
We hope we don't get haunted by any of these trends in 2021 and have better scope for more fashionable finds.
