Running late for work? Don't have enough time to make yourself a satisfying plate of food before you leave the house? Or simply not in the mood to cook that early in the morning? Don't worry! Just throw in a couple of your favourite ingredients in a blender, and go the smoothie way. Smoothies are as less time consuming as they are delicious. They're also a super healthy breakfast option - with fruit, milk, yogurt and some nuts if you like giving yourself protein and other nutrients required by the body.

So wake up and blend up one of these healthy smoothie recipes for a great start to your day.

1. Go Green

With just 3 ingredients and a handful of ice, you can whip up this delicious breakfast on the go in just 5-7 minutes. Place a handful of spinach, green grapes, 1/4 cup of coconut or almond milk and some ice in a blender. Blend until it's smooth and frosty and you are good to go.

2. Play With Protein

In a blender, add 2 scoops of protein powder in your favourite flavour, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/2 cup water, 3 ounces of frozen orange juice concentrate, 1/2 a frozen banana, 1 tsp honey, 3-5 ice cubes and 1 teaspoon orange zest (optional). Blend up a smoothie like this for some quick nutrition and much needed protein post your workout.

3. Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

1/2 a cup of water, low-fat vanilla yogurt, some red grapes, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, frozen raspberries - that's what you need for this one! Throw all of them together in a blender and allow it to blend until you get the desired, smooth consistency. Enjoy this refreshing combination that's sweet enough for dessert yet healthy enough for breakfast.

4. Vegetable Smoothie

Chop and combine 1/2 cucumber, 1 large carrot, 2 celery stalks, a handful of parsley and spinach, 1/4 cup avocado, 1 tbsp flax seeds, 1/2 an apple and frozen banana in a blender. Add 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk and some ice in the mixture until it's smooth. It's healthfully delicious and totally worth a try.

5. Chocolicious

If you like chocolate and peanut butter, you'll simply love this luscious yet healthy recipe. All you need is 2 large ripe bananas cut into chunks and frozen, 2 tbsp creamy peanut butter (preferably with no added sugar), 2 tbsp honey, 1 1/2 tablespoons cocoa powder and 1 1/2 cup of almond milk. Place these ingredients in a blender until completely smooth. I can imagine myself, sitting by the fireplace in my hoodie and fuzzy socks while drinking this! Can you?

6. Tropical Pina Colada

A taste of the Caribbean without having to leave your kitchen? Why not! Place 2 cups of frozen pineapple chunks, 1 cup coconut milk, 1/4 cup coconut flakes and 1/4 cup oats in a blender and enjoy yourself a yummy breakfast enroute work.

7. Hangover Smoothie

Had a little too much to drink last night? Need a healthy wake-me-up in the morning? Try a refreshing watermelon smoothie for your hangover. With its hydrating salts, minerals and sugars, it will immediately help. Add 2 thick slices of watermelon, 1 cucumber, a handful of mint, 1 tbsp lime juice, coconut water and 2 slices of ginger in a blender and blitz thoroughly. It's a total saviour when you don't have enough energy to cook something for yourself.
