People usually prepare their answers for an interview. But they often forget to prepare questions for the interviewer. Here are some that you must ask towards the end of your interview.
1. If I do get hired, what would an average day at work be like?
It's a fairly simple question that answers a lot. Their answer will give you an insight into what your life will be like if you join their company.
2. What is the reporting structure of the team?
You need to know who you are reporting to. You also need to know if someone will be reporting to you. It's a whole different ball game if you're a manager. Ask to meet your team, if possible too.
3. What would be the scope of my responsibilities?
Find out what all are you, as an individual, going to be held responsible for. And don't settle for a vague answer - ask them to explain in quantitative terms.
4. What's the main goal that the company is working towards?
Sure, you might be being hired into a team that isn't directly responsible in achieving that goal. But that doesn't mean it should be any less relevant to you.
5. What would be the growth opportunities?
It's good to know what they think about your role and the future it may or may not have. Remember that their answer isn't a commitment - it's just an idea of where things could lead in an ideal scenario.
6. What would be some of the challenges faced by someone in this position?
You can't expect to be a natural at the job. Prepare yourself by finding out what challenges you'll face - if only for the sake of not being blindsided.
7. What is the success metric for the company?
Is it the number of users that month or the total amount of services provided or some term you've never even heard of? It's different for every company, so find out beforehand!
8. What is the next step in the interview process?
Find out when they'll let you know if you've passed the round or not. And if you need to be following up after a week or so.
