There is no denying that Vikrant Massey is currently one of the most talented actors in the country. Starting his journey as a television actor, the star's latest release 12th Fail quickly became the talk of the town, winning multiple accolades. He played the character of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who after a prolonged period of enduring several difficulties, fulfilled his dream of becoming an IPS officer. In an interview with GQ magazine, Vikrant spoke about his career, mental health, staying in touch with his vulnerable side, and the concept of masculinity.

Vikrant Massey hoped that 12th Fail might spread the message that “success is incomplete without failure.” In his opinion, there are no “shortcuts to true success”. Life will only reward an individual if they are “honest, sincere, and kind” to other people. However, Massey admitted that preparation for UPSC can sometimes put mental pressure on candidates. But, as mental health awareness and conversations have become more open, Vikrant felt that it was no longer a hush-hush topic. In fact, discussions “about men's health are encouraged within the” UPSC ecosystem, he said.
Vikrant Massey had the most honest answer to the question, “What does being a man mean in 2024?” He believed that men have become “far more sensitive” nowadays. They have allowed themselves to be more vulnerable, and cry when they are overpowered by emotions. “The social stigmas and pressures associated with traditional masculinity— that the man is the breadwinner, has to look after his family, can't be emotional—are all changing,” Vikrant continued. According to the award-winning actor, the masses are in the process of decoding the idea of “modern masculinity” with every day being a learning experience and unlearning conventional myths.
Speaking about 12th Fail, Vikrant Massey agreed that the film's idea was to shed light on “the darker side of the UPSC ecosystem—especially the toll it takes on the mental health of applicants.” Quite candidly he said that while some people can crack the exams, others fail (much like Gauri Bhaiya in 12th Fail) in their attempts. However, the actor urged his fans to always be ready for a Plan B or a Plan C. “I personally truly believe, is that in life everyone needs to have a plan B and a plan C,” he asserted. Vikrant continued that those who are hell-bent on following their dreams should “put in the work”, and remain focused.
Vikrant Massey's final advice to the youth was a unique one. Instead of running after a hefty bank balance and “fancy lifestyle”, he urged youngsters to practice being kinder to themselves and others for a “sure-shot way to happiness.”
