As most are well aware by now, New Delhi is hosting the G20 Summit from 8th to 10th September and as VIPs, from countries all over the world, visit our nation's capital city, schools, colleges, offices, and banks will remain closed for the weekend. If you're like most travel enthusiasts, this is the perfect excuse to pack your bags and get away from the city to explore what the rest of India has to offer for the long weekend. Turns out, it's not just us who think that way, leading online travel company MakeMyTrip experienced a surge in searches for room bookings and according to this report by Sankash, a leading travel fintech platform revealed that the following were the destinations that topped the list for travel bookings over the long weekend.

Top Destinations From Delhi For G20 Weekend
1. Puducherry
Puducherry was the popular choice with as many as 40% of domestic travellers vying to visit and witness the blend of heritage and serenity. Puducherry is known for its pristine beaches, French-inspired architecture and laid-back attitude. Visitors can soak themselves in the calm of Auroville, which is a famous tourist attraction near Puducherrty.
2. Daman And Diu
Followed by Puducherry, Daman and Diu secured a notable 30 per cent of domestic bookings. Daman and Diu are known for their tranquil environs and leisurely pace, ideal for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. Daman and Diu are separated by the Gulf of Khambhat While Diu is known for its coastal food including crabs, lobsters and fish, Daman is famous for its authentic Gujarati cuisine.

3. Goa
11 per cent of travellers, chose to visit Goa. The serene land of Goa is the perfect destination for a wide variety of travellers from party-goers to beach-lovers and foodies. With numerous cafes and shacks opening in Goa, thanks to the tourists visiting the state, you are assured to enjoy a heft seafood meal along with the crazy party culture.
4. Agra
Agra being in close proximity to Delhi attracts a lot of tourists. This weekend, as Delhi will experience restrictions in terms of communicating within the city, the beautiful city of Agra offers an ideal break and a chance to immerse in history and culture like no other. Apart from the aforementioned destinations, travel portals have also predicted that Sawai Madhopur, Manesar, Amritsar, Vrindavan, and, Udaipur will also receive a surge of tourists this G20 weekend. Riding on this emerging trend, Air India, is offering a goodwill gesture in the form of a "one-time waiver of applicable charges" for any date changes of passengers holding confirmed tickets to and from Delhi on 7th to 11th September 2023. "Only the fare difference for the rescheduled flight, if any, would be applicable."
