Hina Khan's "Real Crown" Is Her Courage As She Cuts Off Her Long Locks

With every passing day, we're more and more certain of Hina Khan's status as a warrior. The actress recently announced that she has been diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. However, she is refusing to bow down to the disease and instead, is taking control of it in her own hands. In her latest Instagram entry, Hina made the conscious choice to chop off her tresses. In the video, Hina sat on a dressing chair, ready to let go of her mane. She was assisted by a friend who turned hairdresser for her. He twisted her locks in multiple pigtails and secured them with a ribbon. The frontal region was tied with a hairband. Hina took the scissors and chopped the tresses herself; that courageous smile never leaving her face. When the rest of the pigtails were cut off, it resulted in a pixie hairstyle. Semi-long strands framed her temple while the hair at the back was cropped short.

Hina chose the cropped hairdo before undergoing chemotherapy to avoid the heartache of watching her hair fall during the intense medical treatment. In the caption, she wrote, “I know for most of us, our hair is the crown we never take off. But what if you're facing a battle so tough that you have to lose your hair—your pride, your crown? If you want to win you've got to make some tough decisions. And I choose to win. I have decided to give myself every chance possible to win this battle. I choose to let go of my beautiful hair before it starts falling off. I didn't want to endure this mental breakdown for weeks. So, I choose to let go of my crown because I've realised my real crown is my COURAGE, my STRENGTH, and the love I have for myself. I have decided to use my hair to make a nice wig for this phase. Hair will grow back, eyebrows will return, and scars will fade, but the spirit must remain whole.”

More power to you, Hina.
