Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is making headlines for an interview that happened almost 17 years ago. The couple got married in 2007, when Aishwarya's film career was at an all-time high. Back then, the couple and other celebrities went on a tour called ‘The Unforgettable'. During the press conference of the event, Aishwarya was asked by a journalist, “We hope we don't lose you to marriage and babies”, to which the Guru actress replied, “I am looking forward to babies, I am enjoying marriage, there's no question to lose oneself to it.”

Aishwarya Rai has often been vocal about how taking on a new identity does not require surrendering your old one. In an interview with India Today, she implied that changing her surname to her husband's was a natural transition and in another interview with Karan Johar she confidently stated that her career would not be compromised by the responsibilities of her personal life commitments. Later in 2011, Aishwarya and Abhishek were blessed with a baby girl, Aaradhya and her stance seemed to remain the same. So how does one successfully juggle all the various roles they play in their personal and professional lives, including motherhood, and still retain a strong sense of self? Here are some tips:

1. Make Time For Yourself 

While your loved ones may seem like a top priority at all times, taking time out for yourself, daily, is widely regarded by experts as necessary for your mental and physical well-being. Connect with your family and friends and ask for help to babysit your child while you take some "me time."

2. Say No To Mom Guilt 

The ‘perfect mom' voice in your subconscious can make you believe that if you spend time with yourself, you are somehow taking away from your child. If you can draw your attention to 10 things you did right in your day then the one thing you did imperfectly will weigh you down a lot less. 

3. Write It Down  

Another effective way to keep up with yourself is to journal your feelings, hopes and dreams. Writing down your challenges, expectations and beliefs might help you identify your own needs more adequately.  

4. Channel Your Bliss 

If you have a job, career or a hobby those are a great way to give room in your life to your individual goals. If not, find something you enjoy doing, if only for a few minutes a day. In that short timespan, your brain is being used for nothing else but what makes you happy and that could become a daily reminder that your desires deserve space in your life too. 

5. It Takes A Village, So Find Yours 

There are Social Media and WhatsApp Groups for married mums, single mums, and working mums. There are startups for women trying to get back to work after taking a break to have children, companies that offer work-from-home policies and workplaces with nurseries and qualified daycare professionals. There are also childcare facilities, after-school recreational facilities and many more options, all of which allow children a space to grow and parents time to pursue individual goals.
