An Expert's Guide To Mesotherapy And How It Benefits The Skin
Mesotherapy is quickly becoming a hot skincare treatment

You may not have heard much about mesotherapy yet but that will change shortly and even before it does, we're here to tell you about the procedure that's quickly becoming a hot skincare pick. For an expert's opinion, we spoke to Dr. Kiran Lohia, Celebrity Dermatologist and Founder of Isya Aesthetics to tell us about mesotherapy and the benefits of this skincare treatment.

Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment where vitamins, enzymes, amino acids etc. are injected into the mesodermal layer of the skin; which is where the therapy derives its name from. Or as Dr. Lohia simply puts it, "a quick way to get vitamins to the deeper layers of the skin." When any food is taken orally, it needs to be digested and absorbed before its nutrients can take effect. However, when injected directed in the body, they penetrate deeper and the effects are quicker.

Mesotherapy has been present since the 50s and been used for a variety of purposes like removing excess fat and treating alopecia but is most popular for treating the skin. After a numbing cream, the procedure involves shallow needles being injected into the middle mesodermal layer. Adds Dr. Lohia, "Mesotherapy is also done in addition to other skincare therapies to augment them further." Prices and formulas being injected can differ depending on a patient's needs. Overall, mesotherapy can be uncomfortable but isn't painful and the downtime is approximately a day long.

The benefits of mesotherapy are the primary reason why it is fast becoming such a popular treatment. Says Dr. Lohia, "When mesotherapy is done correctly with the right actives and proper delivery, it can boost skin health. Generally, products only absorb into the skin by 5 to 7 percent. If mesotherapy is done with injections and microneedling, it can increase the vitamins being absorbed in the skin." Mesotherapy is used to treat pigmentation, scarring, loose and wrinkled skin as well as to boost its nourishment.
