Back in the good ol' days, a makeup sponge meant one thing-a pale, flat piece of sponge that took on many avatars. It dabbed on powder, blended in blush and touched up foundation. Today, all that has changed. The world has so many varieties of makeup sponges that they probably need their own shelf now. So whether you want to blend in your highlighter or dab on concealer, the right sponge will be an irreplaceable part of your makeup routine.
The teardrop
Probably the most popular of all makeup sponges, the teardrop is highly absorbent and works like a spongey superhero when blending liquid and cream finish products. Moisten it a little, dab it onto your skin when applying makeup and watch it blend foundation seamlessly.
The triangle
Although it somewhat resembles a child's building blocks, the triangle is a starter sponge that every makeup newbie must own. Its pointed ends get into those tricky under eye areas while its flat base is great for wider regions like the cheeks.
Flattened tear drop
The difference between this sponge and a teardrop is its flat, slanted base. The shape is a great combination for emphasising base makeup like bronzer or highlighter as its angled side gets into the hard to reach contours of your face.
The disc
At some point or the other, every woman has owned a disc sponge. As its name suggests, it's a wide, flat sponge and surprising enough, it works just perfectly to apply a final layer of powder on the face.
The pear
Compared to the teardrop, the pear is more curvaceous. It has a rounded indent in the centre which means, more control over the pressure used. Its point is helpful when doing makeup around the nose and the wide base helps with effective blending too!
