Coldplay's Music of the Spheres World Tour has been creating waves globally since its launch in March 2022. But what sets this tour apart is its focus on sustainability.
In a sustainability report, the band, featuring Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion, revealed their commitment to reducing their environmental impact. When the tour was announced in 2021, Coldplay pledged to cut direct carbon emissions by at least 50%. The report highlights impressive progress, noting that the tour's direct carbon emissions for the first two years are 59% lower than those of their previous stadium tours.
Sustainable Measures Adopted For The Concerts
1. Trees For Tickets
For every Coldplay concert ticket sold, a tree is planted. So far, 7 million trees are growing in 24 countries, helping restore around 10,000 hectares of land.
2. LED Wristband Recycling
Coldplay's famous LED concert wristbands are made using recycled material and 86% of them are returned and reused for future concerts after sterilising and recharging them.
3. Power Bikes & Kinetic Dance Floors
At Coldplay concerts, fans can help power the show by riding bikes or dancing on special floors that generate energy. So if you can't head to that spinning class because of Coldplay's concert, you may still be able to squeeze in some fitness time.
4. Solar-Powered Shows
In 2023, 18 shows ran entirely on recycled BMW i3 batteries, in addition to their solar and kinetic energy setup.

5. Free Water Stations
All shows provide free water refill stations. Fans are encouraged to bring refillable bottles and skip single-use plastics.
6. Green Travel Options
Partnering with 23 green travel providers, the band encourage fans to arrive via low-carbon options like bikes, carpools, or public transport with the use of the apps.
7. Less Waste, More Giving
Coldplay diverts 72% of their waste from landfills, donates meals to those in need, and backs awesome environmental groups like The Ocean Cleanup and Project Seagrass.
8. No Confetti Chaos
Confetti used during the show is 100% biodegradable and requires considerably less compressed gas for ignition than on previous tours.
9. Conscious Charity
10% of Coldplay's revenue generated from tours, releases etc go for a good cause to protect the environment. The funds are be split between environmental and socially-conscious projects and charities including ClientEarth, The Ocean Cleanup and One Tree Planted.
10. Vocal For Local
Through their tours, the band encourages locally sourced food and fibres for the distribution of food to the teams working closely and merchandise manufacturing that are in turn purchased by the fans.
