Under the flashy lights and glimmering stars, Bollywood celebrities are humans too. We often get so lost in the light of the former, we tend to forget the latter. As a global fashion icon, Sonam Kapoor has always been in the limelight and dressing the part is close to non-negotiable. Vogue's Forces of Fashion event held in Mumbai recently recognised her influence in the field and for it, Sonam was dressed to the nines. She arrived in a gorgeous orange two-piece custom skirt set from Giambattista Valli. But other than her gorgeous custom outfit, she made headlines for other reasons too. Many noticed her loose postpartum belly skin, stretch marks and muffin top - all obvious results of a post-childhood body and all deemed typically imperfect among beauty standards. Motherhood is tough but looking like a million bucks after childbirth, irrespective of these so-called visible blemishes can't and won't stop this fashionista from being a force of fashion in her own right. To display these visible signs often termed taboo on a platform as large as hers makes Sonam Kapoor, before being a force of fashion and a global style icon, perfectly human.
For the night out, Sonam Kapoor was accompanied by her husband Anand Ahuja. Both of them received awards at the big fashion night. The floundy orange outfit featured an off-shoulder crop top and a voluminous skirt. The off-shoulder top with a large bow is her gift to us. Unlike the regular styles we are used to seeing, falls straight from the waist and then flares at the hip into a voluminous long skirt with large 3D florets. She pairs the outfit with her signature makeup, a sleek bun and diamond stud earrings. Her husband Anand Ahuja, a fashion enthusiast himself, was seen in a casual Giorgio Armani suit with a tie worn around his neck and sneakers in keeping with his love for athleisure.
We always knew Sonam Kapoor was a lesson on fashion but now more than ever it seems like this lesson can turn into a chapter and then a book if she did.
