When it comes to the Obamas, rules that apply to other celebrity couples magically become null and void. And Valentine's Day was just another example of this strange phenomenon. Famous people declaring their love for each other on social media is par for the course now, but no one does it better than the former first couple of the United States of America. Yesterday, Barack and Michelle Obama exchanged adorable Valentine's Day messages on social media, and while both were heart-warming in their own right, we're just a wee bit more partial to Michelle's way of expressing her love.
First, Michelle Obama wished her husband calling him her 'one and only', and dedicating a Valentine's Day playlist to him. The Spotify playlist, adorably named 'Forever Mine' has 44 songs, possibly a subtle call-back to Obama's presidency - Barack Obama was the 44th President of America. Filled with classic and contemporary love songs, everything from Diana Ross' 'Endless Love' to Alabama Shakes' 'I Found You', the list is the perfect embodiment of the Obama pairing. Not to mention the stunning cover. Clearly, when Michelle Obama decides to do something, it's always with impeccable style.
Within minutes of Michelle's post, Barack Obama posted his own message on Instagram and Twitter, with a sunny, smiling photograph of the couple vacationing. "You make every day and every place better," he wrote. Awww.
This isn't the first time, either. Several times in the past, the Obamas have made the world melt into puddles of mush, with their heartwarming messages, filled with love.
On Michelle's 54th birthday on January 12, Barack Obama posted another photograph of the couple with the caption, "You're not only my wife and the mother of my children, you're my best friend. I love your strength, your grace, and your determination. And I love you more each day. Happy Birthday."
Last year, in October, Michelle posted a similar adorable message on their 25th anniversary. "A quarter of a century later, you're still my best friend & the most extraordinary man I know. I love you," she wrote.
While Barack Obama has been wishing Michelle on her birthday every year through his social media profile, it's only post presidency that the messages have gotten romantically verbose.
While the Obamas' social media handles provide sneak peeks into their endearing togetherness, if you're truly fans of the couple and their love story, it's former official White House photographer, Pete Souza's Instagram that you need to follow. Filled with candid moments from the Obamas' eight years in the White House, Souza's feed is a treasure trove of photos for fans.
We're not crying, you're crying.
