1. Be Aware Of Your Hair Texture
Coarse, curly, or frizzy hair sucks up colour faster. It will become cooler-toned when you dye it and end up looking ashier. People with curly and frizzy hair, are advised to look for a colour that's warm but slightly lighter than your natural hair colour. Medium hair textures don't absorb colour easily and will turn out to have a warmer tone when you add dye. Therefore, if your tresses are straight and fine, pick cooler shades which are slightly darker than your natural colour.
2. Prevent The Scalp
Many times, while applying dye we end up staining our scalp. Frequent exposure of the scalp to dyes can bring in its own share of problems. These chemicals tend to remove the protective lipids or oils from the scalp, leaving it exposed and vulnerable to damage from styling products and other irritants. In order to prevent it, you must create a coconut oil barrier or use some petroleum jelly around the hairline to prevent dye from staining your scalp.
3. Spot Treatment For Gray Hair
In case you just want to get rid of the gray hair, you don't have to dye your whole head. You can use an eyebrow brush to colour just the grey strands with utmost precision.
4. Partition in Four
To avoid uneven colouring and patchiness, divide your tresses into four sections: two in front of the ears, and two at the back. Use clips to hold the sections in their place. Try to be organised when it comes to the application of dye.
5. Leave Your Hair Open
No matter how cool it looks to tie up your hair in an edgy bun after applying dye, don't do it. It is suggested that you leave your tresses down to avoid uneven colouring. Either wear old clothes or buy a hair colouring gown.
