From the way it fares on different hair types to decoding its attachments, NDTV Swirlster reviews the new Dyson Airwrap in red colour

I Tried The Dyson Red Airwrap Complete Styler For My Wavy Hair And Here's What I Think
The Dyson Airwrap now comes in a stunning red shade

To those who know their way around the hairstyling world, the Dyson Airwrap needs no introduction. To those who don't, calling it the 'mac daddy of hair tools' might sum it up. The luxurious hairstyler is known for its expert engineering, styling without extreme heat and premium price point. Following its launch in 2018, Dyson launched the Airwrap in a luscious limited edition red shade this year which I got my hands on. After weeks of curling, brushing and drying, here are my thoughts about it.

Build And Make Of The Dyson Red Airwrap

The cylindrical red case of the Airwrap includes 7 pieces in total - 1 styling wand, 1 pre-styling dryer, 1 round volumising brush, 1 set of 2 30mm barrels, 1 set of 2 40mm barrels, 1 soft smoothing brush and 1 firm smoothing brush. The case also includes a mat and filter cleaner. The wand is designed so that it can be easily held in one hand. Its button placement, which can be accessed with only finger movement rather than hands, is also well done. The build of the attachments are lightweight enough to be held in one hand but not very sturdy. They allow movement in areas around the shoulders as well without weighing down the hands.

Both barrel sets come in sets of 2 to allow for clockwise or anti-clockwise wrapping of the hair; another thoughtful choice for left-handed and right-handed users. With the mat, you don't have to place your hot attachments on the dresser directly. The case, while it does hold every piece securely, is quite bulky and not travel-friendly if you have to consider weight.

Feel And Usage Of The Dyson Red Airwrap Complete

The standout attachment is definitely the curling barrels. Like magic, it harnesses the Coanda effect to automatically hold on to the strand and twirl upwards in whichever direction is most comfortable. This also allows for the entire process to be done in one hand but it does take a bit of practice to get the technique right. Each brush is suited for different hair types but don't mistake them for hair straighteners. The firm smoothing one fared well and kept my natural waves for hours while getting rid of frizz. The volumising brush adds significant bounce to give an almost salon-like look. The pre-styling dryer is another smart addition as it will do the job of a hair dryer without the bulkiness, making you forget all about your other ones.

My wavy hair type took very easily to this hair styler but for coarser hair like curls, the finish is achievable but takes more time. Even on the highest heat setting, it doesn't burn the hair. Each attachment focuses on minimizing frizz and smoothing hair without the damage of extreme heat before getting to styling and that's what sets it apart from every other styler I've used. Priced at approximately Rs 40,900, it's a high price for a hairstyler but its thoughtful design, focus on reduced heat damage, targeted smoothing and variety of potential hairstyles with its various attachments are what make it stand out.

What Swirlster Says

It's an absolutely brilliant investment piece for those who style their hair frequently. In this case, the returns aren't just a variety of hairstyles but also the reduced threat of long term hair damage.
