We're all familiar with the fishtail braid; the braided hairstyle has been a red carpet staple spotted on the likes of Blake Lively and Eva Longoria for years now. But fishtail brows? Now that's a first. If you thought that eccentric beauty trends were left back in the old year, ready yourself because fishtail brows is the first of 2018. And boy, are they peculiar.
Take a good look at them and you'll know just what we're talking about. The fishtail brow trend is defined by a set of regularly filled eyebrows until the end of the brow bone. That's when it takes a twist. It is then followed by an upward flick, a miniscule gap and a regular precise brow end. Once completed, the outer flicks of the overall look resemble the tails of a fish.
Instagram blogger and editor, Stefan of Skyz Editz is the mind behind the trend and takes full ownership of it with "creator of fishtail brows" even being added in their Instagram bio. It all began when they edited a set of sharp fishtails onto an image of beauty maven, Huda of Huda Beauty. Huda, who is always game for a new trend, shared the edit and the rest is history. While Stefan continued to post images with newly edited brows on bloggers, the trend caught on quickly and that's also when it peaked. Editing aside, makeup artists went ahead and physically created the eyebrow trend with the clever use of concealer and brow pomade.
As with absolutely anything that occurs, of course the Internet had an opinion about fishtail brows. One user thought they looked familiar.

Another one found it was a step too far, when we were only just wrapping our heads around perfectly filled eyebrows.

The past year has seen several whimsical eyebrow trends, with even wavy ones leaving their mark on the beauty world. What we didn't expect was that there were even more ways to make one's eyebrows an almost-theatrical prop in a look. We're going to go right ahead and tell you to save this one for Halloween but then again, there will probably be a new brow trend making waves by then.
