
Christopher Bailey, president and chief creative officer of British brand Burberry, is all set for his last and final show for the brand at London Fashion Week on February 17. Given his history with the brand, few are surprised that Christopher Bailey is leaving with nothing less than a bang.
For his final show at LFW, Christopher Bailey is unveiling his last collection with Burberry in support of the LGBTQ+ community around the world. As tribute, he has incorporated the hues of the rainbow into the traditional Burberry check, thus giving birth to #TheRainbowCheck.
Burberry put out an official press release on February 12 in which they said, "The LGBTQ+ rainbow, an emblem for optimism and inclusiveness, will feature prominently across the brand's February 2018 collection, rooted in the introduction of a new rainbow check, the latest iteration of Burberry's most iconic symbol."
Speaking about this latest initiative from Burberry, Christopher Bailey said, "My final collection here at Burberry is dedicated to - and in support of - some of the best and brightest organisations supporting LGBTQ+ youth around the world. There has never been a more important time to say that in our diversity lies our strength, and our creativity.".
Burberry also partnered with photographer Alasdair McLellan for a photo and video campaign featuring the new collection and a cast of young LGBTQ+ people in love for them., a Next-Gen Community Platform.
To solidify its support of LGBTQ+ communities, Burberry also announced "that it has made donations to three charities - the Albert Kennedy Trust, the Trevor Project and ILGA - all dedicated to broadening the awareness, mentoring and resources available around the world."
Christopher Bailey is all set to step down from the board of Burberry on March 31 and leave the company entirely at the end of 2018. His announcement about transitioning from the brand came after a successful 17 years with the company. Bailey is often credited for having taken Burberry from a small UK based brand to a renowned global fashion house.
