This year's Cannes Film Festival has definitely taken the fashion quotient to a higher level. Sure, this festival is all about celebrating cinema, but no one can deny that it's also about celebrities looking their glamorous best on the red carpet because the whole world is watching. While Aishwarya Rai Bachchan once again brought her A-game on the red carpet looking stunning in a butterfly-inspired Michael Cinco dress, Deepika Padukone won major love on social media for the ruffled, Ashi Studio fuchsia pink gown. Kangana Ranaut too made an impactful debut at Cannes, picking stylish creations from high fashion designers like Zuhair Murad, Nedret Taciroglu and Elisabetta Franchi among others.

Amidst all the designer gowns, we also saw the desi saree make heads turn at Cannes this year, thanks to Bollywood stars such as Kangana Ranaut, Neena Gupta, Nandita Das and Divya Dutta who brought out their stylish best in the traditional wear.

If one had to choose a Kangana Ranaut look that instantly won everyone's heart, it would be her first appearance in Cannes in a Sabyasachi Mukherjee saree. Kangana nailed the 50's movie star vibe dressed in an ultra glamorous rendition of the designer's famous 'Aakash-tara' saree. The sparkling black saree was hand-dyed and embellished with hand-cut sequins, and Kangana's bouffant-inspired hairdo perfected her diva look.

Neena Gupta too made her Cannes debut this year. She, along with celebrity chef Vikas Khanna, were attending the film festival to unveil the first look of the latter's directorial venture - The Last Colour, which revolves around the widows of Vrindavan. It was not hard to guess that Neena's daughter, Masaba Gupta, would be styling her red carpet look. Going the contemporary route, she wore an ivory crushed saree with a knockout pink blouse in tribal vase prints, and accessorised it with a pair of statement earrings from Suhani Pittie.

Nandita Das is known for her understated style, and the actress-turned-director looked elegant as ever sporting different saree looks at the film festival. Her film Manto was being screened at Cannes this year, which stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Divya Dutta and Rasika Duggal in lead roles. While on one occasion she wore a gold silk saree from Raw Mango and teamed it with a green blouse, on another she wore a pale pink saree, probably from the same brand.

Divya Dutta was also in Cannes with the Manto team, and she picked Manish Malhotra outfits to look her best at the event. Her first look was a white saree with intricate gold threadwork, which she teamed with statement earrings and a matching clutch.

Sayani Gupta also made an appearance at Cannes this year, representing Fox Life India. For her Day 1 look, she wore an olive green, dhoti-style saree designed by AM:PM. She teamed it with Shilpsutra handcrafted Punjabi juttis, while accessoring her outfit with a trendy Lara Morakhia's 'peacock on quill' neckpiece.

So whose saree look did you like the most? With Sonam Kapoor making her red carpet appearance tonight, we wonder if she too will pick a saree or go for a designer gown. Stay tuned, we are about to find out soon.
