8 Festivals To Celebrate In April 2023
1. Mahavir Jayanti
Mahavir Jayanti falls on the 4th of April this year. The festival marks the birth of the great Tirthankara of Jainism. He is known to be the teacher who propagated the dharma in Jainism. There are processions (yatra) conducted with visits to the temples, giving offerings to the poor, meditating and chanting hymns in praise of Lord Mahavir.
2. Hanuman Jayanti
On the 6th of April 2023, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated all over the country. Lord Hanuman devotees observe a day-long fast, visiting Hanuman temples and offering sweets, flowers, coconuts and red vermillion to the deity and praying to the Lord.

3. Easter
Easter is a day of fasting during which people attended prayer services and decorate and distribute easter eggs. They get together with family and friends and play traditional easter games such as egg rolling, egg tapping and egg decorating. Easter marks a joyful end to the Lenten season of fasting. It will be celebrated on 9th April this year.
4. Baisakhi
Baisakhi is known to be the festival of harvesting. It is celebrated with the joy of the harvest season when the crop is ready. People of the village come together and participate in folk dances like Bhangra and Gidda. Sikhs also visit the Gurudwars to take blessings, which are specially decorated for the occasion. There are parades and processions arranged in some parts of the country for the joyous festival. Biasakhi will be celebrated on the 14th of April 2023.
5. Puthandu
On 14th April, there will be yet another festival celebrated which is Puthandu. As per the Tamil traditions, Puthandu is an auspicious occasion where the home entrances are decorated elaborately, people wearing traditional attires meet and offer prayers, and perform rituals in temples. Divine songs and traditional musical instruments are played at home while enjoying Pongal which is a rice dish offered to Gods.
6. Poila Baisakh
Poila Baisakh is the first day as per the Bengali calendar and will be celebrated on the 15th of April this year, as a Bengali New Year. There are cultural events, and traditional feasts arranged. People meet and greet their families and friends during the day.
7. Eid-Ul-Fitr
This day marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. Muslims all over the world celebrate this day by wearing new attires, offering prayers, visiting mosques and eating Eid preparations made at home. They greet each other with 'Eid Mubarak'. This year the festival would be celebrated from the 21st through the 22nd of April depending on when the new moon appears in the night sky.
8. Earth Day
22nd April would be celebrated as World Earth Day. It is a day celebrated to protect the planet from pollution and environmental hazards. The day creates awareness amongst the minds of the people for the importance of planting trees, saving water and other environmental resources and causing less wastage of the available resources.
