This is why she's the resident stylista of Bollywood

By now, it needn't even be said. Sonam Kapoor is one of B-town's leading style stars and it's not just because of all the designer wear that she's so often spotted in. Usually styled by sister Rhea Kapoor, it's her versatility that shines through because this girl has got the makings of a style chameleon. With her fashion icon status only growing by the day, Sonam manages to balance almost any look: traditional lehengas, sparkling ball gowns and monochrome pantsuits, all with elan. If there's a bold, experimental style statement being made in Bollywood, you can almost be sure that Sonam Kapoor is the one pulling it off.

True to form, Sonam recently used the promotional rounds of her upcoming flick PadMan to make both a fashion and beauty statement that got everyone talking about her appearance. Sonam wore a muted green striped saree with a plum long-sleeved printed blouse by designer Anavila Misra. Along with it, she wore a chunky silver cuff and jhumka earrings. But the surprising twist in this fashion story came with Sonam's hairdo of choice. Unusually, she paired the traditional Indian look with cornrow braids from the hairline which led to loosely worn natural waves from the mid-length.

Now, Indian fusion looks are a style staple of sorts in Bollywood but it's safe to say that none of them are quite like this. While the print-mixed saree and chunky jewellery built it up to be a lovely ethnic look, the cornrows add an quirky element and give it an edgy touch. Of course, it's hard to imagine anyone pull off this experimental look as easily as Sonam Kapoor does.

This also marks one of the rare times when cornrow braids made an appearance in Bollywood, with Sonakshi Sinha's look in Holiday being the only one that comes to mind. Now we hope this marks an inflow of more braids, twists and rolls in Bollywood's hairstyle scene.

Happiest in a sari..

Sonam captioned the look saying she's "happiest in a saree" and we couldn't agree more. Happy, edgy and stylish - that's what this look of Sonam's seems to say. Would you try cornrows - or any other experimental hairstyle - with a saree? Tell us in the comments.
