Gone are the days when fashion meant wearing the most uncomfortable ensemble, that may or may not have looked avant garde and chic. While experimenting is still very much an integral part of the inherent nature of the fashion industry, sky high-stilettos that crush one's sole (pun-intended) seem to be fast becoming a thing of the past. We've seen a dramatic shift in the kind of clothing that trend-setting and fashion forward celebrities are wearing - away from skin-tight, hard to breath spandex dresses and steering closer and closer to easy sportswear or athleisure as some like to call it, as everyday wear. The change isn't just in the clothing department, though. Comfort has taken over the world of shoes too - as any shoe department of any high-street, or now, even high design brand will tell you.
Here are some celebrities who are making sneakers an even bigger trend than they already are by replacing them with their stilettos.
Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone is easily one of the most stylish people in the movie industry and otherwise. A special mention must be given here, perhaps, to her stylist Shaleena Nathani who seems to have worked her magic (and how) on Deepika. Thanks to Shaleena, Deepika's style is always on fleek, as is her sneaker game. A couple of days ago Deepika was spotted at the Mumbai airport looking as chic as ever in a pair of high-waisted culottes from Proenza Schouler. She paired it with a plain white tee and a bag from YSL. Hard to miss, of course, were Deepika's Nike Cortez sneakers which complimented her outfit perfectly.
Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor's husband, Anand Ahuja, owns a sneaker store 'Veg-Non-Veg' along with his clothing brand, Bhane. Need we say more about why Sonam Kapoor is always sporting the coolest sneakers on the block? Other than maybe because she has great taste. Sonam was spotted with Anand at the Mumbai airport after their holiday in Japan. The uber stylish couple chose to wear their comfiest black outfits, with Sonam pulling off an oversized black culotte suit with a pair of white Nike sneakers.
Anushka Sharma
Anushka Sharma's style is on point while always being understated and minimalistic. A pair of sneakers is something we've seen her carry off with just about everything. Anushka was recently spotted in a striped blue and white dress and a pair of white sneakers. Casual and chic - we'd give her 10/10.
Kareena and Karisma Kapoor
If the Kapoor sisters are doing it, there are no two ways about it being stylish. From their holiday in London, Karisma shared a picture of herself and her sister, Kareena Kapoor, twinning with matching Balenciaga bags while also wearing sneakers.
Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt is currently travelling to shoot for the second schedule of her upcoming film, Brahmastra. Busy as she may be, the young fashionista is keeping it rather stylish in a plain white tee, knee slit jeans and Adidas sneakers. Alia captioned her picture "old fashioned", we'd say just 'fashioned'.
