Stefano Gabbana, one half of the designer duo behind the brand, Dolce and Gabbana, has sparked furore on the internet over his comment on American singer and actor Selena Gomez. On a recent picture of Selena Gomez' posted on Instagram by fashion trends blog, The Catwalk Italia, Gabbana posted a comment calling her "ugly". His original comment which was written in Italian, read "e proprio brutta!!!", which translates in English to "she's really ugly". The image posted by The Catwalk Italia is a collage style image of Selena Gomez in different red dresses. The caption prompted fans to choose their favourite look out of the lot.
Stefano Gabbana is rightly facing the wrath of Selena Gomez's fans online (she's the most followed person on Instagram with 138 million followers), but he seems to be unfazed. The designer, even after the backlash, seems to be going after the issue relentlessly and has refused to met out an apology or retract his statement. In a series of Instagram stories, Gabbana seems to be taking the sarcastic route by reposting articles and comments written in support of Selena Gomez accompanied by emojis and swipe up links that clearly state he feels no remorse about what he said.

Here are a few comments that show the complete outrage and anger shown by Selena supporters on Instagram towards Gabbana and his comment.

Aside from the backlash that has been sparked by Stefano Gabbana's comment, there have also been some prominent people who have come out in support of Selena. Included in this list is Selena's former Disney channel co-star, Miley Cyrus. On a picture of her and Selena posted by a fan page after Gabbana's comment, Miley commented saying "Well what that dick head said (if it's true) is fucking false and total bull shit. She fine as f*ck"

Gabbana is not new to controversies or cyber bullying. Well, here's hoping an established designer and influencer in the fashion world like Stefano Gabbana takes onus for his words and displays more responsible behaviour.
