They say that no good story begins with someone eating a salad. However dishing over dessert definitely spills a couple of secrets. And if it's desserts from Cocoa Cellar that you're eating, then the story is about to get a whole lot more interesting. Why? Because the takeaway bakery makes their desserts with an alcoholic kick. The delivery-only enterprise is based out of Mumbai's leafy suburb of Matunga and offers a variety of not just cakes and cupcakes but cookies, tortes and cheesecakes as well. The Cocoa Cellar team sent across a sampler of items from a few of their categories so I satiated my sweet tooth with them over the weekend and came back to report my thoughts on it.

I had barely even opened the parcel when a rich liquor scent came wafting my way. The dark chocolate and rum cupcakes in a small size were only enough for a single bite of dessert and were covered with a delicate frosting. They were decorated with gold splatter and balls, only adding to the decadence of it. Living up to its tagline i.e. desserts on the rocks, the rum added an edge to the small bite sized quantity of the delicious cupcakes.

Next up, cookies. I'm a cookie fiend myself so the Whiskey Cashew Cookies and Vanilla Cinnamon Bailey's cookies were ones on my plate. Mainly firm with chunks of chocolate and nuts in between, there was no chewy element to these cookies but the texture of chips and nuts definitely upgraded this one from your average cookie.

Finally, there was the Coffee Walnut Loaf cake. Decorated generously with whole walnuts on top, it's an ideal pick when you're heading for a spot of tea to a friend's place. The rise on the cake and a soft crumb accompanying it were what we wished this cake had more of but even a single dense slice of it is bound to keep you full for hours.

Swirlster Says: The cookies shone from the menu and we'd certainly go back for them.
