There's so much more to Dia Mirza than what meets the eye. Best known for her work in Bollywood and as a beauty pageant queen, in recent years, she has also become an eco-warrior honoured by the United Nations as an Official Sustainable Development Goals Advocate and Environment Goodwill Ambassador. So teaming up with The Better Home came naturally as the brand promotes earth-friendly ingredients and responsible packaging for effective cleaning of the home. NDTV Swirlster spoke to Dia Mirza on her new collaboration and how the small ways do the greatest part for the planet.
"It All Starts At Home"
Sustainability is a buzzword often heard in the fashion sphere. But on the home front as well? Dia speaks about how she walked the talk. "Being environmentally conscious is a part of my persona. It starts from home; saving a bucket of water, switching off the lights and fans when no one is in the room or segregating waste to make compost. It took me some two to three years to get things right and make people around me realise how they are making an important difference. Once that is taken care of, think about the larger world outside like the plastic-choking sewage which ends up in the landfills and oceans. It is often said that sustainability lies in the small things. Here's what Dia suggests, "Examine the word sustainability to understand its true meaning and modify your daily practices. Make small changes and assess your every purchase. Try to repurpose old clothes and furniture; this is what I have done in the past and it works wonderfully.

"Chemicals Are Like Slow Poison"
Having spent months at home like never before, simple aspects of maintaining a household are coming to the forefront. Thoughtfully picking the products to keep the house spic and span is one of them. On why is going chemical free is so important today, Dia says, "Chemicals are like slow poisons; you realise the effect only when there is no way to turn back to the safer options. The chemicals in the home cleaning products are known to cause health problems. Going chemical-free is no longer an option for us, but what we lacked is a reliable choice for safe home cleaning products.
"We Cannot Wage A War Against Mother Nature"
On asking her about her collaboration with The Better Home, Dia said, "The pandemic has shown us that we cannot wage a war against mother nature and thrive as a race. The need to shift to environment-friendly products is now. The Better Home products meet that need with their products that do not harm the earth and help us live in a clean and hygienic manner. Along with their healthy products, they also run a recycling program. It saves the planet from single-use plastic and harmful chemicals that affect life under water too. Their bottles are reusable and everything else is recyclable, including the cap of the refill pouch." Speaking about it being the right fit for her, she adds, "In my personal life, I have been following sustainable practices for the past four to five years; I've planted 8,000 trees. The Better Home enables people to choose a sustainable lifestyle. My beliefs to make the world a healthier place to live align well with the brand ethos of The Better Home, which is why I have chosen to become their partner."
