Gen Z has officially declared the end of the skinny jeans era but the dispute between its demise and longevity still continues. It is no surprise though that what used to be everybody's fail-safe clothing staple is now considered simply passé. If you have found yourself struggling to put your skinny jeans on, then you could blame the pandemic for it. The pandemic forced many to make a switch from smart casuals to comfort wear that you could take a nap in too. Now with things slowly normalising, how do you make the shift from sweatpants to jeans again? Fashion experts are now vouching for loose-fit jeans like flared denims or mom and boyfriend jeans to be the frontrunner of jeans trends of the season. Social media too has a huge role to play with this drastic and sudden shift from our beloved skinny jeans.

So, Are Skinny Jeans Really Over?

That being said, it is not that skinny jeans have stopped being manufactured or that people have stopped buying it; they're just not the default choice of apparel anymore. Many business models however do show that the shift to looser jeans may be the retail boom in the denim industry everybody has been waiting for post the pandemic. The trend of loose-fitted jeans indicates a fondness of a more casual style, which is comfortable while also having a long shelf life.

What Are These "New-Age" Denims?

We have also noticed some significant changes in the way these jeans are different from the skinnier counterparts; they feature higher waistlines and have spacious leg openings but not large enough for it to be "swishy". We have seen a comeback of many jeans from the past recently, proving it is probably a good time now than ever to get our hands on such styles.

If Not Skinny Jeans, Then What Next?

So what are your new denim alternatives? Flared denims are to the 70's, what acid wash was to the 80's and boot cut denims were to the 90's and what the comfy mom and boyfriend jeans are to our times. High-waist flared denims and boot cuts though are still very much in vogue. Slouched jeans are another entrant to Gen Z's love for the new age denims. Gen Z is not wrong to point out why this revolutionary piece of clothing keeps evolving over the years to changing times and why we need to shift our likings too.

If there is one good that has come of this pandemic, then it has got to be a sustainable fashion model that is more casual and comfortable where one jeans fit all (body, shapes, occasions - you name it!).
