Ed Sheeran is currently on a desi detour during his Mathematics Tour. Ahead of his upcoming Chennai concert, the global sensation treated himself to a champi i.e. India's traditional head massage. He shared a video on his Instagram Stories of himself getting the treatment.
In the video, the singer-slash-songwriter can be seen sitting under the sun while the masseuse hits his head with both hands. At one point, Ed jokingly remarked, “Oh god! This is abuse.” Since the masseuse was applying much pressure, Ed Sheeran poked fun at the situation by writing, “This Kinda Slaps.”

While this masseuse had clearly put too much pressure, the traditional champi session offers multiple benefits, which is why it has been a longstanding practice for centuries.
Read the benefits of champi below:
1. Hair Growth And Strength
A head massage with oils like coconut, olive, almond, or fenugreek seeds is a well-known Ayurvedic treatment for hair. The nutrients in the oil strengthen the hair shaft, while the massage boosts blood circulation.
2. Scalp Health
When done properly, head massages can reduce dandruff and soothe the scalp.
3. Stress Release
Head massages help relieve stress from the body's most vital organ i.e. the brain, which governs the entire body's functioning. A champi session of just a few minutes can help relax both the body and mind.
4. Cognitive Function
By improving blood circulation and reducing stress, head massages can enhance cognitive functions, including memory and concentration.
5. Restful Sleep
Head massages help release anxiety and stress accumulated throughout the day. They promote relaxation for both the body and mind.
