If you played with Barbie when growing up, chances are you had that one solitary doll which didn't look like the others did. Whether your repressed feelings led you to chop her hair off, pretending she was a gymnast made you stretch out her limbs or aspirations of becoming a makeup artist ended in face-painting her, you know exactly the doll we're referring to. She was the black sheep of your otherwise stereotypically pretty collection of dolls and her choppy hair, strange stance and bizarre makeup was mainly why. The Barbie movie witnessed multiple unifying moments but one of them was the acknowledgement that everyone had that one doll. We now officially know her as Weird Barbie, who is played by Kate McKinnon in the film. The most notable differentiator of Weird Barbie is how different she is from the rest of the dolls. She is shorter than the rest of them and has a wildly cut short hairdo with colourful streaks over her face. Her gauzy pink dress is unfavourably paired with whacky green snakeskin boots. Also, her legs are always in a split. Not the doll you envision when you think of Barbies, am I right? But that's what is most beloved about her. Weird Barbie is believed to be the doll who was played with a little too hard, which left her with indelible impressions on her physical form. Her legs work funny, her hair is a riot and her makeup is odd and on some days, that can feel very real for all of us. But beyond her physical attributes, she's also charming, smart and funny. In a perfectly plastic dream world, Weird Barbie has become symbolic of embracing imperfections and being loved for them. So it's no wonder she has turned out to be one of the most-loved Barbies from the film.

There are multiple dolls in the movie, including Mermaid Barbie, Nobel Prize Barbie and President Barbie. The fact that Weird Barbie's zany character stood out does say a lot about the fan following of the film and the delightful experience that now-adults had when playing with dolls as children.

Mattel has now released an official Weird Barbie, which is based on McKinnon's likeness from the movie. Referencing the film, this doll comes with the identical fluffy pink dress and snakeskin boots as well as short tousled hair and face markings, to emulate a doll that's been played with too hard. She also has a flexible body type to get into the split that defined Weird Barbie's look.
Thanks to Weird Barbie's unconventional uniqueness, she's about to be the hot favourite of the doll world.
