5 Expert-Approved Tips To Keep Curly Hair Bouncy As Ever!

In a world full of poker straight locks, curly hair is like a breath of fresh air with its bounce and volume. However, when it isn't treated the way it should be, it doesn't fare well and ends up broken, dry and frizzy. Curly haired girls, we've got you covered with these tips!

1. Know your hair better

Contrary to popular belief, all curly hair isn't the same and the key to caring for it well lies in understanding that. "There are 2 main types of curly hair - curls which are fine and thin and curls which are thick and full. Once you understand where your curls lie on this scale, you'll be able to care for them well," says Zahabia. "Fine curls need moisture while thick curls need even more of it to stay healthy."

2. Throw away your brush

Trying to brush your curls will do more harm than good to them, trust us. All it will do is ruin your natural texture, break the strand and make it frizzy. To detangle your curly hair, run your fingers or a wide-toothed comb through your length post hair wash.

3. Stop with the scrunchie

Stop right there - we see that scrunchie in your hand and we're going to ask you to put it down nicely. It's for the good of your hair, after all! "Tying your hair causes additional breakage and damage, which doesn't bode well for curly hair," warns Zahabia. Instead, leave 'em loose or use a clip.

4. Drive frizz far away

Frizz is the enemy of curly hair. So to ensure it stays far, far away, opt for a moisturising conditioner that will nourish and retain texture. When drying your hair, instead of using a fluffy towel, use a cotton t-shirt or micro-fiber towel as these options won't upset your curls and make them frizzy.

5. Diffuse your curls

To blow dry your curly hair, use a diffuser instead of a regular round dryer head as this will dry and keep your curls well-formed. "A diffuser spreads heat evenly without directly pointing at one spot and helps it retain its natural curly texture," recommends Zahabia.
