Fishy Smell Down There? Here's How To Fix It.

Everyone's vagina has a smell and really, it's fine. But, there are times when our lady parts can start smelling like a fish market.

Fishy Smell Down There? Here's How To Fix It.

There are two kinds of odours - the natural odour that doesn't smell like a bed of roses. And the foul smell - fishy, musky, yeasty, metallic etc. If your natural odour is seeming a bit off and turning to the second kind, it should get your alarm bells ringing. So, how do you get rid of it?

1. Switch to 100% cotton underwear

I am sorry for spoiling your lacy underwear plans. Cotton underwear. Cotton granny panties are what you need to step into. This has to be the first thing you need to do when you smell something unusual. Plus, change them often in a day, especially before you sleep.

2. Keep the area dry

We go to pee and then, we pull our pants up and behave like everything is hunky dory. Pause, turn back, pull out a tissue - dry the area gently but thoroughly before you step out again. Extra moisture means extra bacteria. Keep it Sahara desert dry down there.

3. Tea tree essential oil

Essential oils are highly underestimated in India. Yes, they remind us of a Thai foot spa too. But, they also have antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Don't directly apply it though. Mix it with water, add only a drop or two and then apply it. Try this for a couple of days. Hopefully, it will fix it.

4. Take a break from hot showers.

Oh! How we love hot showers. In the morning, before sleeping. If it's a Saturday - we don't mind one extra in the evening too. You know, before we step out for our late night plans. But, they are the reason your PH levels might be getting upset. The moody PH levels usually cause the infection that leads to Surmai kind of smells.

5. Diet

What you eat could directly affect what you smell like. Fresh cranberry juice is a go-to juice to prevent urinary tract infections. If you can't get some cranberries, don't forget to include green tea in your diet. Eat some dahi or some form of probiotic if you can. The good bacteria in the probiotics will eliminate the bad ones and if you do have a yeast infection, it might calm down.

6. Potassium permanganate

This has to be strictly checked by a doctor if you can use it or not. A leaf out of your chemistry book will tell you that crystals of KMNO4 (or Potassium Permanganate) are an antiseptic for vaginal infections. They are purple in colour. Get yourself an old-fashioned tub, add crystals of KMNO4 and sit in it for 15-20 minutes.

We want to tell you this again and again - a healthy vagina does have a natural odour. It's the one-off foul smells that you need to worry about. Rest, take it easy.
