Paris Fashion Week, which is currently in progress, is bringing innovative fashion to the forefront from the style capital of the world. It was a significant moment for American designer Thom Browne as this season marked his debut couture showcase at the event. Though known for his neutral palettes and tailored silhouettes, the showcase was full of life; especially at its climax. The show-stopping moment from the showcase came when model Grace Elizabeth strutted down the catwalk as the "Thom Browne Bride". The designer's version of a wedding dress included a white tailored dress, which was based on Browne's signature suit silhouette. Structured shoulders met a crisply buttoned front and tie which led to a flowing sheer dress left unbuttoned. The decadently long train was 10 feet long, carried by two models wearing white blazers with pleated kilts. It was worn with mega-high platform heels and a white veil pinned to her slicked hair.
The showcase was entirely in tones of grey; with all kinds of fantastical creations showcasing Thom's signature tailoring. This included coats and waistcoats with stripes and bell hats, pleated skirts and kilts, embroidery over tweed and his modern classic, the deconstructed suit.
Earlier in the year at the MET Gala in May 2023, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker were the very first couple that the designer had jointly dressed for the event. While Barker wore a blazer with a kilt, Kardashian wore a deconstructed skirt and shirt with a corset.
Tailored silhouettes got a contemporary revival on this runway.
