If your 2025 New Year resolution involves getting in shape, then you might have visualised yourself lifting dumbbells and pulling TRX ropes. This year, however, exercise doesn't necessarily have to be restricted to the insides of a gym.

For those interested in mixing up their fitness routine, trampoline workouts might just be the way to go. Not only is the newfound form of fitness steadily becoming a celebrity favourite, it's also a fun way to sweat it out.

Trampoline Workouts: Exercise But Make It Fun

There's an element of joy associated with jumping on a trampoline; which translates to the workouts too.

"When you're bouncing, you're not just working your legs - you're also engaging your core, arms and stabilising muscles without even realising it," says fitness expert Mukul Nagpaul, Founder of Pmftraining and a Fit India Movement ambassador.

He adds, "Let's be honest! Bouncing on a trampoline feels more like play than exercise. That makes it easier to stick with, especially if you find traditional workouts boring."

Recently, Eva Longoria was spotted getting in high knees and deep lunges with the added layer of doing it all on a mini trampoline, which is termed as a rebounder. The Hollywood actress has been a long-time lover of the fitness format; as seen from her 2022 video, in which she is seen performing squats mid-jumping on the trampoline.

In fact, Hollywood celebrities like Gisele Bundchen, Kaia Gerber and Goldie Hawn swear by the rebounder exercise routine to look red carpet-ready.

Closer home, Alia Bhatt was tutored by her fitness instructor Yasmin Karachiwala to do an intense cardio workout involving jumping jacks and free weights, which they posted on Instagram back in 2014.

The Biggest Difference Between Regular Workouts And Trampolines

Exercising on a trampoline is a whole different ball game from running on the treadmill or lifting weights.

"The trampoline's surface is more unstable, so your body has to work harder to stay balanced. Over time, this improves your coordination and stability. The up-and-down motion also creates a special kind of resistance that works your muscles differently than other workouts," adds Mukul.

Namrata Purohit, Entrepreneur, Partner at The Pilates Studio and most notably, celebrity fitness trainer to the likes of Janhvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan, says, "Trampoline workouts are unique because they combine high-intensity cardio with a low-impact approach, which is rare in traditional forms of exercise. The trampoline absorbs much of the shock that would otherwise stress your joints, making it ideal for people recovering from injuries or looking for a joint-friendly workout."

What's So Good About Trampoline Workouts?

While trampolines can look like a bouncy house for adults, working out on them can yield serious health benefits.

Rebounding, which is the act of exercising on a mini trampoline, involves every single part of the body in a workout. While working the core, buttock and leg muscles, the bouncing motion stimulates one's lymphatic system, which helps flush out toxins and keeps the immune system strong.

One of its greatest benefits is its low-impact factor, which means rebounding is gentle on the joints and much easier on the knees, hips, and back compared to running or jumping on hard surfaces.

Mukul tells us, "Bouncing is a great cardio workout that gets your blood pumping and improves circulation. It tones the legs, core, and stabilises muscles without putting too much strain on them. The trampoline challenges one's balance, which strengthens the core and helps improve posture."

The great news is that this workout works wonders for the mind as well. He adds, "There's something about bouncing that feels so freeing; it's a great way to let go of stress. Like any good workout, it releases endorphins, which make you feel happier and more energised."

Exercising On A Trampoline: Here's How To Begin

So, you've decided to switch things up in 2025 by trying your hand at a trampoline workout. How to take those steps; or jumps, if you will, to try the workout format and stay injury-free?

"A mini trampoline, or rebounder, offers a variety of fun and effective cardio exercises. Some rebounder workouts also incorporate arm movements or light weights, making them a full-body cardio session. The best part is it's a versatile piece of equipment that caters to all fitness levels, whether you're a beginner or advanced," advises Namrata.

Mukul breaks it down for fitness enthusiasts, "For High Knees on the trampoline, add some intensity by lifting your knees as high as you can while jogging. Try Twist Jumps by jumping and twisting your hips and upper body in opposite directions, which is great for your core. Go for Sprint Intervals by fast jogging or bouncing for short bursts to really get your heart pumping. Kickboxing Moves with punches, kicks, or knee strikes can work out the hands as well. Finally, let loose and freestyle dance while bouncing—it's a great way to have fun and burn calories."

That's enough reason for you to add not a skip, but a jump in your step with this exciting new form of a workout.
