When bangles sellers and mehendi stalls occupy every nook and corner of the street, you know Karwa Chauth is 'round the corner. Streets lit up with string lights and shops' bustling with people walking in and out is when you know the festive season is near. Karwa Chauth is a 1-day festival celebrated by married and soon-to-be married women by fasting for the health and wellbeing of their husbands. On this day the women don't eat nor drink anything from sunrise to moonrise and offer prayers to different Goddesses to bless their husbands with a long life. On this auspicious day, women dress up as newlywed brides by completing their 'solah shringar' that includes wearing sindoor, red attire, applying mehendi, jewellery like a traditional necklace, earrings among others. There are different versions of why Karwa Chauth is celebrated but they all have one thing in common; a woman's valour to protect her husband or even go to the extent of bringing him back to life.
These are long sustaining traditions that are followed by many women especially in the Northern India regions and our favourite celebrities are one to follow them as well. Mom-to-be Anushka Sharma sure brings in the festivities like no other. Traditional and simple sets ups to celebrate and wish for the wellbeing of her husband Virat Kohli, is how Anushka Sharma chooses to celebrate every year. Red is an auspicious colour for brides and married women and Anushka Sharma celebrated in a red number last year. On her first Karwa Chauth however, she chose to wear a beautiful yellow Sabyasachi saree; yellow also being an auspicious colour for married women. The love however is consistently ever-growing between the soon-to-be parents.
Newlyweds Neha Kakkar and Rohanpreet Singh's Karwa Chauth was not going to be complete without an Instagram Reel breaking into song together. The loved up couple sure matched their outfits yet again as they were recently seen doing the same for their wedding functions. It's hard to look away as to how well they complement each other and red sure is the colour of the season and they don't miss a point to wear it.
Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover have a lesson to teach on how to look so adorable every picture at a time. The loved up couple are known to pack in some PDA and is no different on auspicious days like Karwa Chauth as well. Bipasha Basu wore a gorgeous vermillion and red suit for the festivities this year and she sure looks radiant resembling a newlywed bride's glow. We obviously can't get enough of how happy they both look considering they're probably extremely hungry.
Priyanka Chopra celebrated Karwa Chauth a little differently than the usual last year. Being married to a pop star sensation comes with a price; thankfully it is not a very expensive one. While Nick Jonas was out on tour with his brothers, Priyanka Chopra celebrated her first Karwa Chauth last year at the backstage of her husband's concert as she didn't want to miss neither the concert nor the chance of being part of her lineage. Guess, you can take the 'desi girl' out of India but not her 'desi-ness!'
Karwa Chauth celebrations sure started early for many celebrities. Raveena Tandon sneaks in a few snaps for her followers all decked up in a pistachio hued suit for a pre-Karwa Chauth celebration. Green is an auspicious colour and is one of the core colours that married women wear even on festivals like Teej. Raveena Tandon's green suit is all about radiant hues with some floral glam as she celebrates Karwa Chauth in Dalhousie this year.
Speaking of Karwa Chauth looks, we still hyperventilate thinking of how drop dead stunning Shilpa Shetty looked last year. You're telling us that you can look that effortlessly gorgeous without a morsel in your system? We're going to celebrate Karwa Chauth everyday then if that is the case.
This year Shilpa Shetty kept it simple yet chic and all 'red-dy' in a red saree from Masaba. Her traditional saree was no short of beautiful and we can only wish that she give us more Karwa Chauth inspiration with each year.
