The best style moments on the red carpet in 2020

Some of the most momentous events in fashion history had to be cancelled this year with the ongoing pandemic. Events like the Met Gala, Fashion Weeks and the Cannes Film Festival were all cancelled for the year that usually garners many eyeballs from all over the world. Luckily though, many important events took place before the onset of the pandemic that made a significant wave on the fashion forefront. The Golden Globes, Grammy Awards and the Academy Awards took place in the early first quarter of the year where stars did show up in some of the biggest style moments of the year. Back here in India, we were not far behind as events like the Filmfare Awards did manage to take place where we saw glimpses of some of our favourite stars. It is true when they say that the show must go on; with the MTV Video Music Awards taking place in the latter part of the year, the world was struck by many more style moments on the red carpet that even a global crisis couldn't put an end to.

The Biggest Style Moments On The Red Carpet In 2020

1. Jennifer Lopez at the Golden Globes, 2020

Jennifer Lopez, who is a regular diva at every red carpet appearance, surely made heads turn at the Golden Globes. Definitely one to not shy away from experimenting, Jennifer Lopez wore an off white gown from Valentino featuring a grand golden bow set against a green bodice that made her look like a 'walking gift'. We were not surprised by the many memes that spawned at the celebrity for her interesting choice of gown.

2. Billie Eilish at the Grammy Awards, 2020

Seems like Billie Eilish had her pandemic style game strong from the beginning of the year. Dressed in an oversized Gucci suit, Billie Eilish kept her look edgy with bold accents of neon green. Her hair and long green nails were in perfect sync with her personal style and complemented her overall look like it was nobody's business. The black retro sunglasses and sheer face mask completed a look that only Billie Eilish could do justice to.

3. Ariana Grande at the Grammy Awards, 2020

Ariana Grande was definitely the undisputed showstopper at the Grammy red carpet this year. Her dramatic custom tulle gown by Giambattista Valli was straight out of a fairytale that surely was a winning moment at the red carpet. Her tiny frame was in perfect contrast to the enormous gown and she decided to stop right in the middle and sit for some clicks. A showstopping moment no doubt, it definitely made up for her absence in the 2019 Grammy Awards.

4. Billy Porter at the Grammy Awards, 2020

Leave it to Billy Porter to make an extravagant entry everywhere he goes. The king of dramatic jaw-dropping looks, Billy Porter did not fail to disappoint this time around too. He wore a teal and silver fringed jumpsuit designed by Scott Studenberg and paired it with silver platform boots. The look, which would obviously be a statement look for anyone, was a tad bit too basic for Billy Porter. As soon as he put the mechanised hat in action, it parted the fringes from his face and just like that, he earned a spot at the Grammy Hall Of Fame as well.

5. Priyanka Chopra at the Grammy Awards, 2020

Desi girl also made waves at the Grammy Awards this year and nearly broke the internet in doing so. Priyanka Chopra wore a gravity defying, navel plunging gown by designers Ralph & Russo with tassel sleeves and a mermaid-like trail. The gown seemed like it was inspired by Jennifer Lopez's famous Versace number she wore 20 years ago that is one of the most iconic looks to this day. Many questioned her choice for the red carpet but there was no denying that her outfit was a head turner.

6. Billie Eilish at the Academy Awards, 2020

Billie Eilish made a comeback and for all the right reasons. Trust Billie Eilish to redefine red carpet fashion better than anyone else. There is no way Billie Eilish's Oscar red carpet debut was going to be any less of a talking point and so it was. Billie Eilish wore a fuzzy Chanel suit with her statement neon hair and black nails that set red carpet goals. There's no doubt that she, very seamlessly, stole the show this year.

7. Natalie Portman at the Academy Awards, 2020

In a groundbreaking moment not just for fashion but also women's history, Natalie Portman's iconic Christian Dior look featured the names of all the female directors who were snubbed from the nominations this year. The lace dress was perfectly complemented with her trench-like cape that carried the names of all the women who Natalie Portman managed to glorify in her own simple way.

8. Alia Bhatt at the Filmfare Awards, 2020

Back home, Alia Bhatt bagged the Best Actor Award for Gully Boy but not without looking like a Bollywood diva in what seemed like one of her best looks so far. Alia Bhatt wore a breezy dual-toned Georges Hobeika off-shoulder dress, which was as dreamy as can be. With elements all tied together in seamless fashion, Alia Bhatt was a red carpet winner.

9. Ananya Panday at the Filmfare Awards, 2020

Whether you loved it or not, this was a turning point for Ananya Panday. Taking the black lady for the Best Debutant, Ananya Panday's fun and eclectic style was perfectly exemplified in her two-piece Dylan Parienty number. While critics were on the edge with this look, we can't help cheer on the young star for making statement choices at the red carpet.
