As India continues to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, Instagram is flooded with glimpses of the festivities in the lives of some of our favourite celebrities. Pictures and videos from the past week have shown stars getting into the festive spirit, decorating their homes with flowers, diyas and other traditional ornaments. But this year, many Bollywood celebrities have not only brought home Ganesh idols but have also embraced an eco-conscious approach in keeping with the environmental concerns many festivals pose. Many of them opted for eco-friendly alternatives by crafting their own Ganesh idols at home using clay. Here's a look at some of the celebrities who chose the eco-friendly route this year:

1. Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa

Rajkummar Rao, who is basking in the success of Stree 2 is celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi by walking on the eco-friendly path. A few days ago, the actor dropped a picture on Instagram, featuring a clay Ganesh idol. The place of worship at his home was adorned with rose and marigold flowers with a red veil wrapped over the deity. “Meet our super eco-friendly Ganpati ji. Made by us at home. Ganpati Bappa Morya,” read his caption. 

2. Ayushmann Khurrana and Tahira Kashyap 

Ayushmann Khurrana shared a post on Instagram where he was seen celebrating the festival with his wife Tahira Kashyap, son Virajveer and daughter Varushka. One of the videos captured Tahira preparing a clay Ganesh idol with the help of a YouTube tutorial. The kids accompanied their mother in the fun session. The trio did not seem to mind their dirty hands, using brushes and carving tools to create the cute idol. “Ganpati Bappa is giving a big hug to all. May you heal and may there be abundance and joy,” read the side note. 

3. Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza

Following the family's tradition, Riteish Deshmukh taught his sons Riaan and Rahyl how to make “eco-friendly Ganeshas at home”. In a video shared on Instagram, the doting father sat on the floor with his kids. They all joined hands to make their own versions of the idol using clay. They also painted the sculptures with different colours. “Ganapati Bappa Morya. Deshmukh household ritual of making Eco-friendly Ganeshas at home and a respectful visarjan. Kids made their own Bappa and each Bappa was special,” wrote Riteish.

4. Sonu Sood

Sonu Sood urged fans to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi but without harming the environment. In an interaction with news agency ANI, the actor said, “We all should opt for eco-friendly ways to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. We should not forget our environment while indulging in festivities. Bring eco-friendly Bappa to your home."

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations will conclude with murti visarjan on September 17.
