Deepika Padukone's Banarasi saree was crafted by a master craftsman from the lanes of Varanasi for the ethnic wear brand Banarasi Baithak. The inspiration for this saree drape was drawn from a vintage piece that the master weaver picked out of a treasure trunk of handlooms.
How The Stellar Green Banarasi Saree Come To Life
The original piece that inspired the saree worn by Deepika is believed to be hundred years old and boasted of the same rich green hues intertwined with intricate gold Banarasi threadwork. That archival saree was the muse for the one worn by Deepika, wherein the orginal design, colour and pattern were kept majorly untouched. Only the tanchoi details between the bootas were removed to make the saree a bit lighter.
The Saree Was A Gift To Deepika From Celebrity Stylist, Anaita Shroff Adajania
What's more was that, as the first piece of the saree came off the loom after six months of handwork, creativity and labour celebrity stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania sourced it as a gift for Bollywood star Deepika Padukone.
The Meaning Hidden Behind The Nine Yards Wonder
This vintage revival saree was sourced by Anaita from the brand Banarasi Baithak as a gift for the celebrity couple and parents-to-be Deepika and Ranveer, keeping in mind that green as a colour is symbolic of fertility and auspicious growth. The saree was kept untouched by scissors and draped by Deepika as it is, which was a metaphor for boundless ever-afters.
