Hair oil is a hair care must-do

Oiling your hair is a time-tested practice that has been used for centuries. Oiling your hair before washing it not only nourishes and moisturizes the hair but also provides a soothing and relaxing experience. When it comes to hair health, oiling plays a significant role in maintaining the overall strength and beauty of your hair. Regularly applying oil to your hair and scalp helps to moisturize dry strands, prevent breakage, and promote hair growth. Different cultures across the world use different types of oil to strengthen the hair such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, onion oil and almond oil. Here are some simple tips you can use to maximise the benefits of hair oiling and achieve the best results.

Massaging Scalp

The fact that scalp massage boosts blood circulation is no secret. But apart from being relaxing, the massage can also help in hair growth. However, too-vigorous massaging can lead to the breakage of your hair. The preferred way of massaging your scalp is to use your fingertips to rub on the roots and not your nails.

Amount Of Oil

The amount of oil depends on the purpose of oiling and the length of hair. Also, keep in mind that oiling is for your scalp, which eventually helps your hair. Begin by taking a few pumps of oil and then rubbing in between your palm, then directly applying on the scalp. If you have chemically treated hair you may want to apply a generous amount. The trick is that your scalp must feel moisturised enough and that is the right amount for you.

Duration For Oiling

The tradition of leaving the oil overnight is very common. However, leaving it just for an hour is enough to let it do its job. It isn't wise to leave it overnight because then you would have to shampoo your head more than once to remove the settled oil on each of your strands. This is not right for your scalp health as it can lead to dryness and hair fall, eventually.

Oiling On Scalp

Oil applied on a clean scalp is only absorbed. Applying oil to a dirty scalp not only weighs down your hair but also results in an itchy scalp. If you are going to shampoo on the third day of the week, it is advisable to apply oil on the second day and wash it the same day itself.
