Do I brush it or will that make it frizzier? Should I try mousse or will that make it stiff? Curly haired girls have many questions and thanks to the difference in texture, their locks have a whole new set of rules. While the internet abounds with curly haired prose, some crucial bits often get left out. One of those is hair plopping.
It's likely you haven't heard about it and if you are the proud owner of a head of curly locks, you really need to know what it is. Hair plopping is a beauty hack that helps curly hair remain smooth and free of frizz. Frizz is the enemy of a good hairstyle; even more so on curly hair. Not only does it leave the hair larger, it also makes it unmanageable and tough to get a handle on. Hair plopping can curb that. It's inexpensive, doesn't need anything you don't already have at home and can be done overnight - three things that make it a winning hair hack.
So if you have curly hair, here's how you can plop your hair for yourself. All you will need is an old cotton t-shirt and leave-in conditioner or serum. Here's how to get started.
Step 1 - Post bathing while your hair is still damp, apply a layer or conditioner or serum over the strands, except at the roots. Use a comb or your fingers to run through your hair or else you'll end up with knots.
Step 2 - Place the cotton t-shirt spread on a flat surface like a bed or table. Now bend over so that your hair is resting on the centre of the t-shirt.
Step 3 - Bring the bottommost ends from either side of the t-shirt together at the back of the head and tie it together tightly.
Step 4 - Lift your head upright and roll the excess fabric on either side tightly to the front or back of the head. Tie both sides together.
Leave this on for a minimum of two hours but preferably overnight. In the morning, gently untie the t-shirt and you will wake up to smooth, shiny curls that are free of frizz.
Curly haired girls, you're welcome
