New Delhi:

Bio: Elegance mixed with a tinge of sexiness, that was Zeenat Aman in the '70s. She made a place in the hearts of every person in the country. However, it was not just her roles that were considered iconic. The chokers, halter tops, tinted frames and don't forget the vintage hoops that we all have been sporting for months now, Zeenat Aman made them fashionable way back when. Her choices were way ahead of her contemporaries. Never shying away from expressing herself through her choices, Zeenat Aman redefined fashion. On her 66th birthday, we bring to you some of her iconic looks that set trends in the 70s.

Bralette tops have been a rage this season, no doubt. However, it was Zeenat Aman who took the bold step of wearing a bralet on screen in the '70s. She showed Bollywood how to look sensuous and few have done it better ever since.

It is impossible to even imagine 'Dum Maro Dum' without vivacious Zeenat Aman swaying to it. Wearing tinted frames, vintage hoops and that rudraksh maala, she made boho chic iconic.

Haré Rama Haré Krishna (1971) My favourite song! The histrocial song was origionaly not to be there! Dev told Pancham and lyricist Anand Bakshi, the situation of the song which Dev was to sing, R.D.Burman and Anand Bakshi created 'Dum Maaro Dum'. They made Dev listen to it, and Dev did not show any interest in the song. He said "Yeh gaana theek hai magar mera gaana ka kya hua?" Pancham and Anand Bakshi knew that the song would be a super hit and that it must be in HRHK. Birman and Bakshi realized that Dev was not interested and convinced him to film the song first while they worked out "his" song.So Dev recorded 'Dum maro dam' and than they gave Dev his song 'Dekho O Deewano' and Dev was very happy with it. Dev picturized only half of ' Dum maro dum' on Zeenat as he was confident that "Dekho O Deewano" would be the chartbuster. So in the end Dev had no expectation for 'Dum Maaro Dum' but as fate would have it, the song became synomous for Hare Rama Hare Krishna! I also wondered why the picturization for 'Dum Maaro Dum was only a few minutes whereas 'Dekho O Deewano' had so much screen time. #harekrishnaharerama #devanand #zeenataman #mumtaz #dummaarodum #dummarodum #ushauthap #rdburman #anandbakshi #pancham #chillum #nepal #zeeniebaby #vintagesunglasses #retrobollywood

Zeenat Aman was an actress who did not shy away from experimenting with her style. She took the ordinary polka-dot shirt a notch higher by adding that bandana to it. Her choices were definitely out-of-the-box. No wonder she was a style icon back in the day.

Bell sleeves are love. They are all over our fashion feed. But now we know who spearheaded this trend in Bollywood. Zeenat Aman looked super cute wearing this white bell-sleeved top with embroidery on it. And don't forget that statement belt. We are definitely digging through the archives to get some more inspiration.

How can this picture be a fashion throwback? Zeenat Aman is wearing a deep neck, sleeveless, tie-up top - with a choker. Yes, she wore a choker in the 70s and slayed it. Take that, 90s.

There's a reason why these hoops are back in trend. It's because Zeenat Aman wore them. Everything we put our hands on, she has been there, done that already. Her retro frames became iconic after she wore them in Dev Anand's Hare Rama Hare Krishna. The red bindi and winged eyeliner also became a part of her trademark look.

We are not the first generation obsessing over fringes. Her fringed sling and collared shirt with shimmery pants is everything. Zeenat Aman was confident in whatever she wore and a lot of trends became iconic simply because she wore them.

April 04, 1972 At the Heathrow Airport in London, UK. Upon completion of shooting, Zeenat began packing bags to move to Malta with her mother and German step father (Mr. Heinz) for his job posting. When Dev Anand received feedback on rushes for the film, he insisted that Zeenat and her parents hold off on the move until the film is released and its fate decided, with reluctance they agreed. The film was an instant hit and Zeenat walked away with all the accolades shunning Mumtaz - never before had the Hindi cinema seen a newcomer overshadow the reigning queen. She won the Filmfare Award as Best Supporting Actress. For the first time, the Indian audience accepted a woman who played a 'less than pure' role in a movie. #devanand #zeenataman #hareramaharekrishna #katmandu #heathrow #britain #london #70sfashion #70s #fringebag #mumtaz
