Stay alert and well-informed about the virus outbreak

With the Coronavirus outbreak sweeping not only China but the rest of the globe as well, fear is too. Plenty of myths surrounding the spread of the virus and its symptoms are passed rapidly over social media, only further heightening the panicked atmosphere. Thankfully, the World Health Organisation has come to the aid of the public. WHO has declared it as a global health emergency and released information and advice regarding the crisis on its official website.

Health Tips From World Health Organisation To Prevent Coronavirus

  • "Antibiotics do not work against viruses, only bacteria," says the organisation. As it was a virus, antibiotics were not effective in preventing or treating it. However, if a patient is hospitalised for the virus, the person may receive antibiotics since "bacterial co-infection is possible," they added.

  • WHO said they were working with partners to help accelerate related research and development. Until now, there was no specific medicine for preventing or treating the virus but some particular cures were being studied and tested in clinical trials.

  • They said, "people of all ages" can be infected with coronavirus, while the elderly and ones with pre-existing medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease are more susceptible.
