What is quinoa?
Quinoa is a plant-based protein that has caught the attention of many people who try and maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle, around the world. It is a grain but belongs to the family of plants and is filled with nutrients like amino acids, fiber, and most prominently, protein.
Quinoa has been grown for many years in places around the world. India has only recently begun waking up to the myriad health benefits of quinoa, all thanks to its 'superfood' qualities (and Instagram!). Oh well, better late than never.
Here's why you need quinoa in your life:
1. It is a plant-based protein and, therefore, a great alternative for those who can't eat meat-based proteins. So all you vegetarians just found a great way to take your protein intake a notch higher.
2. It has almost twice the amount of fiber as any other grain, which makes it great for relieving constipation and other digestive problems.
3. Since it is gluten-free, unlike wheat, it is an amazing option for people who are allergic to gluten or trying to follow the gluten-free lifestyle.
4. It is low in saturated fats and helps keep your cholesterol levels in check.
Quinoa can be eaten boiled as a substitute for rice or other grains, or just added as an additional element to a meal. It tastes great either way - along with being wholesome and filling. It even takes less time to cook and is a great breakfast option if you're always running late in the morning! No need to start your day on an empty stomach anymore.
An organic (vegetarian) protein, which fulfils your dietary requirements and is also super easy to cook... How could Indians not obsess over it?
