Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been a longtime advocate of sustainable fashion. The actress put words to action when she repurposed her wedding gown into a black beaded ensemble for an award show. Fashion designer Kresha Bajaj shared a video of the transformation of the white bridal gown into a backless number. The outfit featured broad off-shoulder straps extending downwards to form a lace-style embroidered bodice, featuring 3D floral motifs. It was attached to a flowy tulle hem.
The designer dyed the white fabric of the outfit black. The tulle hem of the wedding gown was embroidered and the same sheer material was attached to the nude fabric, turning into the beaded bodice of the black gown. Then it was the turn of the floral motifs to be dyed black and sewn to the hem of the final outfit. Sharing the video, Kresha Bajaj wrote, “There are always new memories to be made. There are always new paths to walk. There are always new stories to tell. We loved working with Samantha, our muse, to help her create a new memory, and tell another story. Beauty is forever. And it can take on a new form every day." Samantha married Telugu star Naga Chaitanya in 2017. In 2021, the couple announced their separation via social media.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu's black gown featured a corset-style beaded bodice with a sweetheart neckline. Its figure-hugging upper body was attached to a skirt-style tulle bottom. The drape elements around the midriff region were the highlight. The floor-sweeping hem was attached to a tulle detail adorned with 3D florals, forming a trail. Samantha styled her look with a gleaming black choker necklace and a few rings. Her side-parted tresses were in loose waves, for a retro touch. Pointing out the importance of sustainable dressing, Samantha Ruth Prabhu wrote, “We cannot ignore sustainability anymore. We're past that stage when it was a choice. It's now a necessity for the longevity of our planet that we call home. The dress I am wearing today is a beloved gown that has been repurposed for this occasion by the most talented Kresha Bajaj. While that might sound insignificant… entitled even… to many… I assure you that repurposing my old clothes is only one of many steps I am consciously taking to alter my habits and make my lifestyle more sustainable.”
La Soiree is a recent bespoke service launched by Kresha Bajaj, which was behind the making of Samantha's dress transformation. As per their Instagram caption, "Krésha and the team create a new design for the client from an existing piece, for them to wear and use more frequently. This is a bespoke service, in keeping with the label's philosophy, and will demonstrate how every garment can actually have nine lives. Or at least one more stylish one."
