How To Care For Your Skin On Your Period

Your periods don't have to mean trouble for your skin too! Here are some genius tips for you to stay gorgeous - no matter what time of the month it may be.

How To Care For Your Skin On Your Period
Worrying about your skin once your period arrives is now history

That 1 week in the month when Aunt Flo visits has its own share of troubles - low energy, painful cramps and mood swings. We hate to break it to you but there's one more thing to worry about when you're on your period - your skin. Blame it on the complex cocktail of hormones running through you. Your period makes your skin pale, dull and fussy. Thankfully, these skin care tips will come to your aid.

1. Never stop hydrating

Due to the low estrogen in the body, it's normal to find your skin dry and irritated during your periods. Your body is also losing fluid during this time so it's even more essential for you to keep tanking up on water, hydrating fruits and vegetables. This will replenish your dropping fluid levels and keep your skin moist and hydrated.

2. Treat the pimple

Along with everything else that's going on in your body, you're bound to spot a wild pimple on your face during your period. We hate it but it happens. Take matters into your own hands with a homemade pimple spot treatment using turmeric, cinnamon and honey. Also opt for an oil-free moisturiser and toner to prevent build-up and oiliness on the skin.

3. Don't stop your routine

Spotting sudden skin changes like pimples and dry patches can make you want to stop everything completely. But don't do that. During the highs and lows of your period, following the basics of your skin care routine like cleansing, toning and moisturising will keep your skin healthy and tide it through this unpredictable time.

4. Moisturiser is key

Regardless of what state your skin is in; oily, irritable or dry, never fail to moisturise it. Period skin needs as much moisture as it can get to stay healthy and firm. Moisturising will nourish it deeply and go one step further in keeping it healthy throughout the week.

5. Get rid of the grime

The erratic hormonal cycle of your body can cause oil and dead skin cells to build up on the surface. If not taken care of, this can lead to pimples, irritation and more oiliness. An exfoliating scrub is all you need to brush away this buildup and leave your face smooth and clean.
