With short hair making waves all through the celebrity sphere, it's but natural for long-haired lasses to lust after a short, cropped chop. But the commitment of maintaining and growing it out for the next 6 months is the only thing holding them back. That's why the faux bob was invented!
At a screening of her upcoming flick, All I See Is You, Hollywood starlet Blake Lively stepped out in a white power suit, dazzling red lips and a surprising voluminous bob hairstyle. While many speculated that Blake Lively went under the hairstylist's scissors, in all probability it was her hairstylist Rod Ortega who pulled off a phenomenal faux bob on Lively with panache.
So if you'd like to go short without the tiresome commitment, you're in the right place. We got Zahabia Lacewala, celebrity hairstylist at Rikoshe Salon & Academy to instruct us exactly how to fake a bob hair if you have long hair.
Step 1 - First and foremost, determine your hair type. "As a faux bob requires slight dryness for ideal hold, straight hair needs to be backcombed to get a textured finish."
Step 2 - Divide your hair into a top section from the hairline to the base of the crown and a bottom section, which consists of the lower layers. Pin the top section up so that you can get to work on the bottom layers.
Step 3 - "Measure along your neckline where you'd like your bob hairstyle to fall to make sure it's proportionate with the whole style," says Zahabia and continues, "Then backcomb the innermost bottom layers to give it more volume. Tuck these layers inwards, adjust their length and pin the ends of the hair within the length in place." Be generous with the bobby pins to make sure the layer stays in place.
Step 4 - Then open the outermost bottom layers, roll the ends inwards to the length of the existing tucked portion and pin it from the inside of your hair.
Step 5 - "Open the pinned up top section and backcomb it to give it volume or else it will fall flat," recommends Zahabia. Place the hair strategically to cover the pinned up section at the back. If it's also long and not layered, tuck the ends inwards as done before.
Step 6 - "Finish off with a few spritzes of hairspray to keep the hairstyle in place," concludes Zahabia.
