What Is Thalassotherapy?

Thalassotherapy is a therapeutic use of seawater and other marine resources such as mud and algae that promotes health and well-being. Derived from the Greek word thalassa, which means sea, it is a natural treatment that has been used for centuries to relieve many health concerns. Not only this, but it also uses the healing properties of seawater's mineral-rich composition for detoxification and relaxation. Even though thalassotherapy gained popularity in France, Tunisia is making its mark in the industry because of its pristine Mediterranean coastline and easy-on-the-pocket treatments. Tunisia has become the world's second-largest destination for seawater-based therapies.

Tunisia's Rise As Thalassotherapy Destination

Tunisia's coastline is not just gorgeous but also boasts marine resources for the therapy. As per reports by Hindustan Times, the country has more than 60 dedicated thalassotherapy centres in towns like Sousse, Hammamet, Monastir, and Djerba. The country offers thalassotherapy packages that cost a fraction of what they do in France. The country is also seeing growth in international interest in its thalassotherapy sector with 1.2 million foreign visitors annually, which generates significant revenue for the country.
