"I Might Co-Parent With A Woman": Jonathan Speaks On Embracing Fatherhood

Jonathan Bailey, known for his role in Netflix's Lord Anthony Bridgerton, recently opened up about his wish to start a family. In an interview, Jonathan chose to keep mum about his current relationship status but candidly discussed his thoughts on becoming a parent. "It's such a privilege for a man," he said to Vogue. In the same conversation, the Hollywood star also claimed that he feels it's not the right time to have children due to his busy schedule. "But I can't bring children into my lifestyle now." Talking about how he has been taking preparations ahead of his parenting duty, he mentioned, "I want to make sure I'm going to be present. I'm reading books on adoption. I might co-parent with a woman, but I'm thinking it will be with a man."

Being part of the LGBTQ+ community, Jonathan Bailey said that he understands the difficulties, such as encountering judgment and unease, especially when he gets spotted publicly holding hands with their partners. He added, "I had a boyfriend who wasn't experienced at holding hands in public. We got heckled in London. But that kind of behaviour is now outweighed by the smiles you get."

Jonathan Bailey has spent a lot of time questioning his sexuality while growing up and shared, "I think other people understood my sexuality before I was even aware of it," adding, "I remember looking through the window at these girls at school in their tutus. They were doing, like, first position, second position, and I knew I just wanted to be in there."

During his teen years, Jonathan Bailey was in a relationship with a woman who is still one of his closest friends. For the actor, his experience wasn't about hiding or living in secrecy.

Earlier, Jonathan Bailey believed that he had to "be straight" to be successful. In a GQ interview, he candidly discussed how he spent years in his early career hiding his sexuality, believing that being openly gay would hinder his success in the industry.

"At the time, [my friend] was told, 'There's two things we don't want to know: if you're an alcoholic or if you're gay.' All it takes is for one of those people in that position of power to say that, and it ripples through. So, yeah, of course, I thought that. Of course, I thought that in order to be happy, I needed to be straight."

But in recent years, Jonathan Bailey has changed his perception and said, "I reached a point where I thought, "I'd much prefer to hold my boyfriend's hand in public or be able to put my own face picture on Tinder and not be so concerned about that than getting a part."

Jonathan Bailey embraces the idea of parenting leading the way for many LGBTQ+ community members to do the same.
