I was 7 years old and overheard that my parents were invited to see a preview of “Duniya meri Jeb mein”...it starred my favourite Rishi kapoor...it was school night and my very particular mother refused to let me come with her....I threw such a tantrum because i couldn't bear the fact that I was being disallowed from seeing a Chintu kapoor film...the parents finally succumbed...i went ....with stars in my eyes...like i had every time I saw him on celluloid...he was my HERO! The very handsome, the exceptionally charming, the eternally Romantic RISHI KAPOOR...my childhood was dedicated to watching him sing his songs with abandon, wearing his printed sweaters and dancing in my bedroom.....doing the dafliwalle routine with a dinner plate in front of my school friends...and finally nearly fainting when I met him for the first time in Cochin on the sets of my fathers film DUNIYA...I looked at him like he was a monument that I wanted to keep marvelling at....when i directed him in SOTY i shed a tear silently after he gave his first shot ... a major childhood dream was actualised ....today i feel like an irreplaceable void has crept into my existence...a piece of my growing years has been snatched away....i am honoured to love him...to know him...to have a drink and reminisce with him....I still will .. how can the romance of Indian Cinema ever leave us? Never. Dard -e dil....but this legendary legacy will live on! I LOVE YOU RISHI KAPOOR!

Here's a look at some of his most popular fashion statements:

Patterned Sweaters

Whoever has watched a whole lot of Rishi Kapoor's films will instantly notice sweaters. No one has made sweaters look cooler on the big screen as Rishi Kapoor did with his statement pieces. From abstract patterns to colourblocking and even swirling solid pieces across his shoulders, the actor made sweaters the next best thing, particularly in the film Chandni.

Some truth in life are hard to accept. Your departure is one such hard truth... The 'True Prince of Romance', known for wearing his heart on his sleeve, Rishi Kapoor has given this Indian film industry a lot to remember and will have a space fixed in our hearts forever. Paired with Sreedevi garu in several of his films in 80s and 90s, this golden duo successfully brought credibility to even romantic trifles. Though he has lead many lives on the big screen, in the end, he will always be revered as the man who gave the world its first lesson in unabashed love and romance. An insurmountable loss... Mufflers

Other than sweaters, one of Rishi Kapoor's iconic fashion statements was also sporting a chic muffler with basics. His retro look in Bobby in a pink and black striped muffler is hard to forget. As well as that from the song Hoga Tumse Pyaara Kaun in 1981 film Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai. You may hardly consider mufflers as an essential in your winter wear wardrobe, but this single piece can work in many ways to lend that extra edge to your ensemble.

Printed Shirts

Who remembers funky printed shirts from the '70s? They still never fail for a statement making look. Rishi Kapoor wore it all - from stripes to floral, abstract, geometrical, you name it! Oh, and also sported wide collars while at it.

Leather Jackets

Leather jackets were a craze back then and still remains a hot favourite even today for its cool look. But why keep it simple when you can opt for panelled jackets for some spark? Rishi Kapoor showed us how.

Co-Ord Sets

Co-ords have been a popular pick in recent months, but back in the '80s Rishi Kapoor was one among Bollywood male stars to make a chic case for it.

Oversized Sunglasses

Love your oversized shades? Well, Rishi Kapoor made it popular way back in the '70s in the movie Bobby.

Disco Outfits

When Rishi Kapoor starred in 1980's Karz and played the role of rockstar Monty, his snazzy outfits of the disco era set a trend in the years to come.
