The airport can be a crazy place when you least expect it. When something unusual happens at the airport, we feel that nothing can get crazier. But breaking all possible records for making weird seizures, the Airport Authorities at the Chennai Airport seized 22 snakes from a passenger. Yes, you read that right. 22 snakes and a chameleon were found in a traveller's luggage at the airport in a spine-chilling encounter.

India's Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has released photos and video footage on social media, and tweeted about several giant snakes packed into transparent plastic containers, which seemed to have been sealed with duct tape.

If reports are to go by, this incident happened at Chennai Airport, where officials found reptiles of various species and a chameleon inside luggage belonging to a passenger, who had travelled from Kuala Lumpur to India.

Snakes and other reptiles were found at the airport in Chennai

They also reported that the animals were discovered while the authorities searched the traveller's luggage as she passed through customs at the Chennai Airport.

The officials, according to reports described the traveller as a woman, who carried the chameleon and snakes to Chennai from Malaysia in her checked bags, which were eventually seized under India's Wildlife Protection Act that intends to "provide for the protection of wild animals, birds and plants ensuring the ecological and environmental security of the country."

A similar incident was witnessed sometime in January. As per reports, the customs agents intercepted a traveller and found baggage that contained 45 ball pythons, three-star tortoises, three marmosets, and eight corn snakes. Reportedly, those reptiles were deported back to Bangkok.
