We have seen Alaya Furniturewala's beige and neutral backgrounds that stand out in her fitness and GRWM video reels. If you are wondering if it's a studio that she shoots in, then you are wrong. It's actually her own house.
In an exclusive interview with Architectural Digest, Alaya F showcased her house. Standing in her cream-coloured living room on a December morning, Alaya describes her apartment as her “hustle home.” She said, “I am a true Mumbaikar at heart. I don't think I could live anywhere else—except perhaps in New York. They are similar in terms of the hustle culture they have. That's the energy of this home—to keep moving. This is the home that I'm in to work hard, so I can build towards my dream home.”
Alaya's three-bedroom apartment is located on the 9th floor of a newly constructed building in Mumbai's Northern suburbs. She first moved out of her family home three years ago. Her house is located between Andheri and Juhu and features large windows, views of green parcels of land, and is close to her family home. For her this house is, “a place of peace, love, comfort, and good vibes.”
With the help of designer Zara Eisa, Alaya turned this home into a multi-purpose apartment that is a home, office, and a filming location. Talking about her house aesthetic, she stated, “I needed every room to serve multiple purposes. My aesthetic is pretty neutral, white, and bright, but we still needed to make sure that I could shoot content in every corner of the house.”
Both Alaya and the designer turned two of the three bedrooms into a yoga room and a glam room, respectively. Her yoga room is where “all the hectic, fun, bendy, flexible stuff happens.” It is bare but for a wall of mirrors and a corner shelf for mats and kettlebells. Her glam room gives off a bohemian chic vibe, with closets on two sides for storage, a large dressing table and a floor-to-ceiling wall-sized window.
When Alaya isn't working, she loves to entertain. It's why she insisted on a U-shaped couch in the living room, knowing full well it was unusual for a room this size. The couch that could sleep a family and a wooden dining table set against another mirror-panelled wall were sourced from her father's brand. To keep up the neutral colour palette, her designer played with texture—Brooklyn fabric, woven rugs, ceramic accessories, and touches of wicker. She also added pops of colour with plants on the balcony and wallpaper in every room.
To keep up with space's warm vibe, there is a focus on lighting: a large cane chandelier from Orange Tree in the glam room and an assemblage of pendant lamps from White Teak to centre the living room. Alaya also added her personal touches to her house: a wall of all her trophies, her pen drawings, hardcover memoirs of her grandparents, and a projector screen.
